Had some time to work on the boat today and since I received my service manual, I felt a little more comfortable messing with it. First I drained the oil. I was surprised that there were no metal flakes in it YAY!!! However after the oil drained out ccame a good bit of water... going to need to reseal it. Anyone tell me what I need to buy and what I'll need to do to accomplish this?
So now I'm confused. What was my problem then? I removed the starter to disconnet the shift linkage, and low and behold, There is my problem. The forged piece that connects the shift rod to the shift linkage (Yes, I making these names up as I go!) was busted in two pieces. Going togoahead and replace the impeller since I have te lower unit off, and if the lower unit that Shootkrt offered is a match and has no water in the oil, I'll just use that one and get mine resealed later and keep as a spare.
I'd been having some major carb problems as well, Since the boat has never ran right after sittin up for 3 years, I figureiswas a "gummed up gas" issue. Took the carbs off compared them and voila! there was the problem there too. Cap screw over the high speed orafice was missing from one. Noticce the lack of a screw at the 6 o'clock position in the 2nd pic. Not at all what I thought I was going to find, but a produtive day none the less!
