Lowrance HDS 5 Question

So i bought a lowrance HDS 5 with Lake Insight..

I know there are many different versions of this HDS 5 and I dont know the differences between them all..

the guy at Academy said I needed a chip to see contour on Chic and Nickajack.. On some places it says that the Lake Insight is the same thing...

So do I need a chip or no?

not unless you want more detail...if you want more depth lines by a Navionics card

Then let me ask this.. how detailed is the Lake Insight..

I can't answer how detailed Lake Insight is, but I just put the navionics platinum card in my HDS and I'm not sure how I ever lived without it. It is very detailed and i'm ver impressed with it.

Here is some pics sorry they are small. These are off the Insight hd card which is the same as insight. 1st 2 are Chickamauga, then Nickajack and guntersville.
