I have a helix 7 DI unit. I'm gonna try and score another unit on Black Friday. One with gps my question is which is a better unit when it comes to user friendliness, set up, and quality on the gps/ SI OPTIONS. I will be moving my helix 7 with DI to the bow and replacing it with the new unit at the console. Just curious on everyone's opinion. Opinions on card quality and all the options listed above. Thanks for any input.

GPS wise, Humminbird hands down. The Lakmaster chip is amazing. I get very good images on my 859DI and 999SI so I would imagine the Helix would be nicer. My buddy has Lowrance and he gets crazy crisp pictures but he also has an HDS12 compared to my smaller units. Im sure you cant go wrong either way, but my vote is Humminbird for GPS reasons.

Thanks. I was leaning towards hummingbird because I already have one unit. It's gonna be a big learning curve regardless of either brand I go with as this will be my first gps unit. So the ease of use is another thing I'm curious about.

The learning curve wont be as steep as you think if you go with a helix model. All of the menu and general function of the unit will be the same as the helix you already have. The only difference will be that it has gps which has the same type menu options as you sonar/DI.

Yea that's true. I'm hoping I can nab a deal this weekend on one. Then it will be time spent trying to get use to it and set up correctly

I also vote for humminbird. I actually have both on my boat. I prefer the helix hands down. There charts are simply amazing. With the lakemaster card.

Go to Bass Pro and go to the back of the store and into the bargain shop or what ever they call it. They'll tell you. Anyway they had several different Helix models in there all marked down. they were ranging from about $250- $500 depending on the unit.
