Looking at buying a Lowrance unit in the near future. Is the Insight mapping worth the extra money, or would one of those map cards work just as well - I don't even know what one of those cost. Does this give you a lot more detail than a regular map you can buy at a tackle store or one of those TVA maps? Looks like it costs a couple of hundred extra dollars and did not know if it was worth the money. I've never fishied on a boat that has this new technology on it, but I know I need to upgrade to something better than what I have now. Thanks for any input......Jim

The insite is nice but once you zoom in you lose most of the 3d detail I would check a map card and see what the difference is.

Also, try to find someone who has what you're thinking of buying and check to see how long it takes for the screen to reload when you Zoom in or out, emoScratch

You ask this as if you have a history of a problem with this. I know I have heard of customer service problems with Lowrance which kinda makes me hesitant cause I'm kinda technologically challenged anyway! emoGeezer Once again, appreciate any feedback. Thanks, Jim

I would buy basemap unit and buy the new Lowrance Insight chip for $200, which is about the the difference between the insight model and basemap. Lots of Lowrance customers are upset about the new chip, and wonder why they cant make a update for the mapping. There isn't enough memory in unit is why it cant be done. The insight chip allows I believe up to 5 times more zoom level with 3D image.

Thanks. I may just do that. I'd love to actually see some of this stuff work before I buy it. I'm sure it's as good as everyone says it is, just not sure I'd have enough sense to use it - I have trouble with a tv remote sometimes and that should be second nature to any guy!!! emoThanks Jim
