Anyone local that is a Guru with Lowrance electronics? DJ’s Marine did all he could for me.</p>

My set up is as follows-a carbon 9 3D scan on the bow, a carbon 12 3D scan on the console, with a Gen2 9touch. For the 1st 8 months everything worked perfectly. The dealer has the Gen2 9touch is the source for all the units. Then suddenly the carbons lost the Gen2 9touch as the source, which causes me to loose sonar on the carbon units. It occurs intermmittantly, can last 5 min. to 2 hours. Rebooting does not help. I have replaced the Ethernet cables, and it did not help. Have spoken with Lowrance numerous times, and made minor changes, but still does not work consistently. The only thing that has changed is that the bow unit is producing the side and bottom imaging pictures, but only while in the water. This doesn't help while idling. Would appreciate any suggestions.

I would be willing to bet the gen2 touch is where your problem is. Still shocked at why they would set it as the main source for all three units, especially if you are running a 3D structure scan module. Assuming the 3D transducer is on the rear of the boat, I would have used the 12 as the min source, then have the 2 9’s linked either off the 12 or off the structure scan module via Ethernet. If the gen2 9 is connected to the structure scan module, the only benefit is the wider scan range, you dont get the 3D images unless it’s a gen 3 or newer unit.

Are both of the carbons on the same sw revision and is the gen 2 touch on at least 4.0 sw?

3D module is in the front, 3D transducer on both the trolling motor and the transom. Ethernet system runs from the 3D box to the two Carbon units, Carbon 9on the bow and Carbon 12 at the console, there is then an ethernet connection between the carbon 12 and the Gen 2. It was set up this way when he got the boat, I would have also done it completely different.

If I can find a Carbon 9 could I just plug and play? If not I may get Johnny to re-route the system!

I tried taking bow unit out of network did not help! I tried taking the Gen2 out of the mix unplug it from the Carbon 12 did not help?

Don't forget that the carbon units are bluetooth interconnected. . I'd remove the Gen11 from the system again and disconnect the ethernet cable if present and see how the Carbon's communicate then try them again with an ethernet cable. Maybe check all your component ground connections and run new dedicated power and ground wiring direct from the battery. These units are way too expensive to put up with issues like these. Lowrance will first probably have you check the wiring like this then perform a hard reset on both Carbon's. You can find a Guru on BBC Forums. If this is an issue elsewhere, you'd probably find it there. I'd probably do all I could with the Gen 2 out of the equation. IMO

It would benefit you to get rid of the gen 2 unit and get a carbon unit (if you can find one) to replace it. One thing I have learned thru pain staking hours is that Lowrance units do NOT like to be mixed and matched. I don’t mean by size screens but by gen types. Mixing them on a Ethernet or NMEA network limits the capabilities of all the units on the network. Imagine trying to link an old desktop pc running windows 98 with a new desktop running windows 10 pro. It might work but you are definitely going to have issues.

Even if you replace the gen 2 with a carbon unit, the Ethernet network configuration will still have to be changed. The Carbon units are way more intuitive and will auto configure most of the settings if you start with a clean slate. I upgraded both of mine to Carbon 12’s with 3D structure scan and have been very happy with them compared to my older gen 2 and gen 3 units they replaced.

Mike, i didn't know you were having these problems. Next time your at a frostbite i can take a look at it for ya. I know when I was following threads on BBC some say update's were problems. My Gen3 gave problems sometimes with 18.2 so I retroed back to 7.0 since i don't use genesis live mapping, also when i record sonar i couldn't use sl3 if i want to record structure map, with 18.1 or higher. I don't know if you updated your carbons but you might be better off to find a previous version software that may help your situation. i also seen, don't upgrade 3D box to 19.1 and leave it on 18.3, but update your Carbons.
