Hey guys..just curious if anybody has used or could recommend a lure retriever like they sell at Bass Pro Shops, etc. The ones with the chains hanging off it and slides down your line to the hung-up lure. I see they are pretty cheap ( $7-$20). But if you could save two or three lures with 'em, they would pay for themselves pretty quick. I've never seen anybody use one but have always been curious if they really work. Thanks.

They work fine, ask Bent Rod, he carries one on his boat all the time. You slide it down the line and jiggle it to get the chains to hang up in the treble hooks. I wouldn't waste my time on single hook lures but the high dollar swim baits or multi hook plugs are expensive and I want mine back, I don't have the money to break off the plugs and tie another one on.

I just made one some wire, lil lead and some small chain cost me about 2.00
I used a coat hanger bent in a half square, needle nose to bend loop at each end, and melted a few tire weights , made a ruff mold from a small dixie cup end, cut some small slits in top of cup, laid in the coat hanger, let hot lead cool, attach small chain to the bottom wire .. now you have a lure retriever

I heard old spark plug ... attach to line and let it slide down on a nylon cord, and pop it a few times to knock plug loose

Fishnvol and I use one that has got to be the best I've found, and super cheap. Go get a pack of 2oz round sinkers with a line tie on them. Attach a swivel and a clip. When you get hung, just clip it on and let it slide down to the lure, pop it a few times and your lure will come free. I made 5 for about 2 bucks.

I use a paint extension pole (15 ft) because I'm as likely to be caught behind a rock on the rip-rap as hung on the bottom.

I've used one for years that is a pole that extends similar to a paint pole. Works fine except in really deep water. emoFish

Thanks for the feedback, guys. It sounds like these things can really pay for themselves. Think I'll pick one up or try and make my own.

I have used the ones on a "string" and only lost one lure in 4 years. One thing I would suggest; If you have an old pole and reel, cut off the pole down by the handle and attach the removed to this 12in pole and reel. It's a lot less messy on the boat and saves time in the wads of loops you have one you attempt to shake one free.
