We hit the water this morning about 7 and I can't say enough how beautiful and good the temp was for a long time this morning. I don't usually fish a lot in the mornings so it's a blessing when it starts off nice out. We targeted deeper water today in the 12ft+ range. We had a slow morning until about 9 or so. Had quite a few shorts probably 5 or 6 or so. Hit a spot that looked really good on the graph, so much so I had a good bit of confidence I could get a fish there. Caught a couple shorts and then had something absolutely hammer my line, immediately ripping drag fought it hard for about 3 minutes and my line broke. I was using 15lb braid to 12lb flouro leader and had noticed a "tangle" a few casts earlier. Didnt give it much thought until later. Hung my head for a minute and went back at it. Few cast later nailed a 18" spot that was an absolute blast to boat. Little while later I noticed the "tangle" again and took a closer look as I was retying it. It looks like the line is unbraiding about 3" above my Alberto knot. I'm not sure if its getting abrasion on rocks or if the cabelas rip cord is just junk. I've had good luck up until this point. Had a few more shorts and my grandpa broke of another nice one on his 8lb zebco 33 setup. Got off the water today about 12:30 and had a absolute blast. I can't wait to do it again especially after constantly getting intruded on on chickamauga. I can't say enough how courteous everyone was and how little traffic there was for a Saturday.
