Got out with my grandpa yesterday. We put in at the riverpark around 10 or so. Current was slow at 13k cfs but we were bound and determined to wear them out. I made my mind up that this trip was gonna be all about finesse tactics. I picked up some tubes to try and sweet talk some smallies to the boat but didn't really succeed in that or any other aspect for that matter. Mainly stuck with a shakey head and the tubes with some jerkbait, lipless and jig attempts randomly. My grandpa had a beast of something bulldog him under the boat and break his line. The drag on the new zebco 33 reels has been absolutely horrible for him. It constantly is changing and wont stay set and in this case it cost him a nice fish. We have got to find him a new spincast that the drag will positively stay put. Other than that bite we didn't have any all day and the weather started moving in and we tucked tail and ran back home. Has definitely been a tough last couple of months with many trips coming up empty lately. I havent really marked many fish on my electronics either so somebody must have them caged up somewhere. Cant wait until spring and warmer weather. Good luck to all.

I have been looking at the abu matic but the drag is in the same spot. I havent got my hands on one thats not in a package so I can feel the drag setting wheel. His problem is he hits it with his thumb.

Just set the drag and then put some gorilla tape over it so he can't bump it. We have been looking at those spin cast's for some kids in our family. I only ever had one zebco and every cast i threw, the line would catch and break. So I just tossed it. The spin cast looks pretty cool though. It's tough down there below the dam b/c of the shad kill (actually tough everywhere!) but if you can find where they are feeding on that dead shad, it is game on!! I wish I would have taken a picture of my depth finder while we were down there. It looked like 1,000's of fish where under us! I fought a striper for 43 minutes on 6lb test on friday.
