After reading about Lances gas shortage I decided to post whatI have found that may solve that problem.

Every body knows that marine fuel guages are notoriously inaccurate.......pay 30-50k$ for a boat and most can`t tell you within 8-10 gallons of how much gas you have left in the tank.

I recently purchased a new Merc 225 PRO XS now known as "the Beast" for my Bullet and while doing my online research.....I ran across a new Smartcraft guage called the MercMonitor. It combines all the smarcraft stuff in one guage. After checking things out I decided to put one in where my speedo was located....i haven`t used it since I got GPS anyway. The MercMonitor has a little more capability than Smartcraft stuff built into the speedos and tach and the little square guage.....it will give your a description of faults and stuff from the Guardian codes if they kick in. I learned most of this stuff from BBC forum from their Merc 3 liter expert Don Weed @ European Marine. Most knowledgable guy and really great at answering questions online or by phone.

One of the things it will monitor is fuel flow and FUEL USED.......just fill up the boat and reset the Fuel Used setting and your good to go. You can set up alarms to warn you if you want to go that far with it. I asked Don how accurate this was and he said within about 2%.

It measure pulse rate and pulse width of each stroke of the injectors.

This a really incredibly capable unit and would be really great on a big Yacht ...it will even drive the boat for you...just about!

For us... the bassboat world it does a whole for you in monitoring your engine.

I think it will work with any Mercury since 2002.....a plug and play set-up.Automatically detects what engine and basically whatever info the computer keeps up with and sets itself up. There is thread on BBC about it and alot of info in theMerc 3.0 liter Hi-performance forum.

Been meaning to post this before just ahven`t got around too it.

After reading of Lance and Jmax adventure yesterday I thought it might be a good time to do it!!

Lance needs some gas gauges like I have in my boat, I have one gage on the console and the other is a sight gage, you can see the clear plastic tank and see exactly how much gas in in the tank, no guessing and it is 100 per cent accurate.

It would be nice if the manufacturers would put sight gauges on new boats - for knowing how much you have while on the water and for not overfilling at the gas station.

All that electronic stuff is really nice, some of it expensive, andit can screw up too.

The easiest and most economicalthing to do is pull the sending unit out of the tank and calibrate it (bend the arm) to read the correct level.Even if you had to replace the gauge and sending unit you're only out of pocket about a $100 for parts. It's worked for both my boats.

Of course if you can affored it, do the electronics.

Stratos is bad about that...Running up river the other day, 1/8th bouncing to 1/4 tank. When I sat down still, almost 1/2. ARG!

Bass Cat Boats does have that feature on all of their boats. Also the Smart Craft gauges are the bomb and trust me they are accurate. When we had a problem with out motor the first time we took it out, I got down to 1% on the gas gauge and the motor was starting to sputter so I don't let it get that low now. lol
