well we were not expecting much of a catching day today as all of the "signs" were pointing in the wrong direction, cows laying down in the fields, cold front settled in, and even the sonular tables didn't look real bright !

i suppose i need to quit wasting my time studying that stuff because we had one the best days we have had in a long time emoDance

we hit the water and headed for deep stuff ( cold front fish go deep right ?) while we did catch a few on deep docks (15-20 fow) and deeper vertical and off shore brush piles (20-25 fow) it was just to hard to stay where we needed to

be with the stiff cold breeze a blowing . we heading down to Eldridge slough to find some brush out of the wind we could fish . the only thing catching fish in there was a beautiful BALD EAGLE ! we wound up watching him catch a couple and eat them instead of fishing . i did take some pics but couldn't get close enough to get a good one with the cell phone emoDoh .

it did make the whole day worthwhile even if we didn't catch another fish (but we did) .

about 10:45 i remembered what wolftiever kid had put in his post the day before emoWorthy we went upriver and found a large dock that was 10fow to 2fow where we saw our second BALD EAGLE for the day !

we started fishing the deeper end and i started getting nice 11"+ plus keepers right off of the bat and glock jr was pulling in dinks. ( i was using 4lb mr crappie line and he had 6lb) well jr gets his reel snarled up bad so i pass him my set

up while i fixed his. during this time he starts hauling in keepers emoConfused . i get his fixed and start using it myself ..... dinks .... i dig around and find the spare spool with 4lb and put it on ..... keepers !

as the bite slowed in one spot we kept moving shallower getting into better fish! 13" 13-1/2" fish . i was getting excited that jr might get his first tarp of the year ! then.......... i bill danced him ......

he had been shooting in this one hole and getting nice 13"+ fish out but when he stopped to put a fresh BG outlaw special on i took a shot in there with mine .... THUMP...... uh get the net ............ a nice 15" slab ... MY 4th tarp of the

year . jr took it well though and remarked knowing how i felt when i fished with polodog and drumking

unfortunately the big 15 did take being caught well and even after some time in a live well by her self, as well as attempts to get her going in the water it was obvious she wouldn't make it . at that point we had 20 over 11" in the live wells

so we decide to shoot for our first over 11" double limit and by 1:30pm we had done it emoDance

we had a total of 70 fish for the day with only a handful being under 10" and all but 6 of the total coming from that one dock

the count was only 2 in and around the dock and the color of the day was outlaw special ( saw no need to try any other color ) .

our best 7 went 9.5lbs and total weight was 30lbs for 30 crappie emoSmile

what a great and special day to share with my son , with seeing 2 bald eagles and finally reaching one of our crappie fishing goals .

it couldn't have happened with out this fine forum and the great people on it who have helped to teach me over the past couple of years so i could teach my son emoThanks
