I wound up my deer season with one more for the freezer. I saw a doe about 8:00 this morning, and not too far behind her was a buck. I could tell that he was no monster, but the landowner wants them ALL killed (he's a farmer), so I whistled, he threw on the brakes, and I dispatched him with a neck shot at 40 yds. He never even kicked, just hit the ground like a sack of 'taters. The doe actually stopped and watched me until I was almost to the bottom of the tree, then she trotted off. When I approached the buck I could smell him from 15 ft. away. What was left of his neck was swelled and his tarsal glands were black. His left antler was broke off just below where the brow tine used to be and his right one was broke off just above it, so technically he was a 3 pt. that dressed at 130 lbs. From the body size and circumfrence of his antlers I figure he was at least 2-1/2 years old. No fat on him at all! I was home by 9:30, had him quartered and hanging by 10:30, ate his heart for lunch and I'm having sweet-meat and biscuits for supper.
Gonna' get some new trailer tires for my boat tomorrow after work, and I might just take a day of vacation next week and go fishing! emoDance
