I wound up my deer season with one more for the freezer. I saw a doe about 8:00 this morning, and not too far behind her was a buck. I could tell that he was no monster, but the landowner wants them ALL killed (he's a farmer), so I whistled, he threw on the brakes, and I dispatched him with a neck shot at 40 yds. He never even kicked, just hit the ground like a sack of 'taters. The doe actually stopped and watched me until I was almost to the bottom of the tree, then she trotted off. When I approached the buck I could smell him from 15 ft. away. What was left of his neck was swelled and his tarsal glands were black. His left antler was broke off just below where the brow tine used to be and his right one was broke off just above it, so technically he was a 3 pt. that dressed at 130 lbs. From the body size and circumfrence of his antlers I figure he was at least 2-1/2 years old. No fat on him at all! I was home by 9:30, had him quartered and hanging by 10:30, ate his heart for lunch and I'm having sweet-meat and biscuits for supper.

Gonna' get some new trailer tires for my boat tomorrow after work, and I might just take a day of vacation next week and go fishing! emoDance

Haven't hunted over there in a few years. I've been on a waiting list for a club over there on the Bama side, but no luck yet. I've been hunting some private land near Fackler for 30 years, and I can't leave it alone. It's rough walking, no 4-wheeler roads, and really no way of cutting any. I think that's the reason that I like it so much, not many folks will even bother with it. I bring a couple of deer and a couple of turkey out of there every year.

I hunted in sinking cove for several years. The lease i was on you couldnt use 4wheelers. Is a really good lease but not really enuff people hunting to make the deer stay active. Plus alot of the locals over in that area like to hunt at night. I never saw a game warden over there ever. Few people said they usally saw them onece a year. Just got to far for me to drive with the gas prices the way thay are.
