I bought my boat last June and used it all summer and some during the winter. It is a 1989 Sea Nymph with a 40 hp Evinrude. Is there any type of maintenance that needs to be done before spring starts. Do I need to change the oil in the lower unit? Thanks for any help. emoScratch

Would suggest LU fluid 4 sure and a water pump impeller. Cheap insurance. Some people will go 3 years on them. Most I would think about is 2 years. Again, cheap insurance. For furture refernece, change you LU fluid just as it starts getting cold. This way if there is water in the lower you will find out before it freezes and damages it. This will save you a lot of money. just my .02

I seem to be having a little water getting in mine as it is a little milky in color. Do you think it is a seal or maybe the washer on the fill plug? If it's a seal, is that something that you might want to do??

Thanks,
Jim

I would suggest that you change the fluid and ensure that the plugs are tight. I like the paper gaskets on the drain plugs. If water continues to get in, then I have a tester that will aid in finding the culprit. It will be a while before I can even think about taking on more work as I am so far behind now that I can't see daylight!!!

Yep, I do mine every year regardless of how much I use it. Like Wrenchin said, it's cheap insurance. I also do filters and plugs at least once a year, especially if you're burning ethanol gas.
