I have planned to have the map study on Wednesday Jan. 23rd at 6-8pm or later. I have PMs out to tso to be sure that that evening is possible at the "club" if that venue is not available fishinpreacher has said that we might be able to use an area at his Church in Harrison. I have also PM'd my tech man, MadBomber and Doc1, my food coordinator to be sure that the date will work out. Earlier in the week it sounded like they could do it any day next week so we should be okay from that end. I am posting now because it's less than a week away and I know some guys/gals might have to tweek their schedule to make it. Sorry for the short notice. If I had the ability to do it all myself it would be easier but I don't.
My plan for this first map study of the year will be to present on the basics of studying topographic maps to find fish. I have a Powerpoint presentation that will set the framework for that. The presentation is interactive and is geared for group discussion and participation. Please bring any maps that you would want to have us look at and ask specific questions about. We are planning on having the ability to project maps that are on CD, SD cards and paper maps that you bring. MadBomber is a great tech guy and is a wizard at making all these different media be available to project. If everyone brings a map I guarantee that we won't be able to look at all of them. I would rather not discuss specifics about the maps of Chickamauga and Nickajack either as we might accidentally show some fishing holes that are secrets to some people but I would say that maps of Watts Bar, Guntersville and beyond would be fine to bring. Studies in the future could be formatted in different ways, particular bodies of water, particular time of the year and/or water temp. I will try to make our time together as fun and productive as possible. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear from you.
I will plan to have a sign up on the "Upcoming Calendar Events" calendar on the bottom of the first page when you enter the forum. If you sign up there you are committing to buy a BBQ boxed dinner that Doc1 will be bringing from a BBQ supplier that he knows. If you are coming and do not plan to buy a dinner don't sign up on that but just come.
I will plan to post instructions on how to get to the map study when I know where we will be. It will probably be in Hixson not too far from 153.
I hope to see you all there, well not all 2134 as of this posting, but hopefully a good bunch that are excited, like me, about finding and catching more and bigger fish!
