I have had a few health issues and the Dr. has me on a diet and exercise program so I started hitting the mountains and looking to dig some roots and scout a little. I live on top and the nuts are slim pickings in my area. Found a few red oaks about three benches down but they are small, mostly hull and very tiny nuts. I have found very few white oaks and chestnut oaks. Decided to go a little lower and look at some chinky pens. I love to hunt chinky pens. They were loaded but again were very small mostly hulls. The freeze and dry weather we had up here ( Marion county) really affected the oaks. Been told by a few old timers that it takes oaks 2 years two fully recover. Seen a really good ole swayback buck picking around in my yard the other day and he was already losing his summer coat. Hope to show him to all yall in about a month.
