Hey guys,

Hooked into some female pigs, but this is the only one that made it to the bank when I fished a half day on the Maumee River in northeastern Ohio on Friday. I was not prepared for the muddy high water with everything I needed. It was great wading the river though, this was my only chance this year to do it. I caught the 17.5 inch male on an orange floater with a 3 inch chartreuse curly tail. I know it's not much, but it will taste good for dinner in the next day or two.

Thanks for the report. I wish that we had more of these down here to fish for without having to travel a ways.

The only walleye I have ever seen here in Chattanooga, was dead laying the water below the Chick. dam this past winter. It was a big one though. I bet it was at least 25 inches long and was really thick.

YUM YUM! The eyes should be running in the head waters of Center Hill and Dale Hollow. Have not done that in a while. Thanx for the report.

I worked an outage at a BP refinery in Toledo a few years ago and during my day off i spent a lot of time driving around the Lake Erie shoreline just exploring. I noticed along the Maumee river which runs thru the middle of Toledo a lot of small and large parking areas along the river. I also noticed all of them had signs from the state wildlife agency warning about snagging. After quizzing some of the local guys on the job , they said it was because the spring spawning run of the walleye up the river ...they claim you can walk across river on the millions of walleye that come out of Lake Erie and run up the river. April is supposed to be the month. Apparently alot of people who aren`t fisherman will come out just for the run to load up the freezer and use the snagging technique because there are literally millions of fish in there at the same time...
It`s on my list of things to do one day...the April walley run...I probably ate walleye 4 days a week for the several months that I was there....it was on the menu at just about all the restaurants .

Keeping a snagged fish isn't worth the risk. They are serious about it there. Guys have told me stories about getting caught. The guy fishing next to you in the river might be an officer, so you just never know. I had 2-3 snagged fish on that I didn't get in. Probably big females. Generally the males bite much better.

There is a 2-3 day period in april where it is just dynamite. The big females feed up before they head back to Erie for the summer.

A guy right next to me caught a 13 lber. He didn't even make a big deal about it, so there are just some monsters that make the run. Wish I lived closer sometimes just so I could hit the right day up there.

During April, on the right weekend, there will be 5,000 fisherman. Talk about combat fishing! It's just a unique experience to check out if you're ever in the area. it's not a terrible drive when I am visiting in Indiana.
