I notice that TWRA does not officially recognize a state record Meanmouth. Is it because it is a mix-breed type fish?

Yes, TWRA only recognizes hybrid stripers and saugeye for state records.

I guess it because these are the only hybrid species that were intentionally stocked and are easily recognizable.

Given the conversations over spots and hybridization of other black bass subspecies it is pretty easy to understand why they don't. Too my knowledge Missouri is the only state that offically recognizes mean-mouths and they bred and stocked them. There may be some others, I am just not aware of any at this time.

Because of the hybridization of bass, the state requires a DNA test before approving a new record. That's expensive, so, they don't want to do it.
