My steering has become increasingly difficult. I read several threads on this site and was able to determine that my steering cables are the problem. The cables are dual teleflex rack and pinion No Feed Back (NFB). My boat is a 2001 Skeeter SX190 with a Yamaha 150 hp HPDI, 4/2000. I can not find any numbers on the cables that identifiy the length. I don't want to remove/destroy the cables until I have a new one to minimize down time. I was instructed to measure the black cover but after I told the dealer that the cables came out of the steering rack, traveled down to the floor and turned back up to travel down the gunnel to the motor, the dealer told me that my old cables were probably too long. So, back to the drawing board. Next, I measured from the steering end of the rack to the gunnel (8"), measured from where the cables make a turn down the gunnel toward the engine (71/2') and measured from the gunnel to the engine (21/2') and added 30". The dealer told me how to get the measurement and add 30". I came up with 13'. I have contacted a boat dealer in Morristown. I was told to bring the boat in and they would change the cables. I have done this once before and feel confident I can replace the cables. I need your help in determining what length cables I need. Thank you in advance for your assistance. emoBang

Its best to go ahead and take them off and bring them to the store w/ you. Thats the best way to make sure you get the right ones. Lay them next to the new ones. I use to sell parts and ran into this problem alot!

Once you get the cable pulled out, it will have the lenth marked on it along with what series the cable is. Some are marked near the helm and some are marked near the engine. Once you get it out, you should see it. Some are in Feet and some are in inches.
