I have decided to give my local drug store 20$ more a month to help boost our local ecocomy (lol). I can buy my blood pressure medicine at the local drug store for 80$ for a month supply. I can also pay 179$ thru Medco for a 3 month supply. After doing my gosendas I'm only saving 20$ a month not counting what I pay for my Insurance. That means their 30 day supply of the very same medicine is 20$ more than what my local drug store charges. I know 20 dollars is 20 dollars but I aint going to put a penny in their Swiss bank accounts. It's the very same thing with the Medical Insurance. Next time you get your bill from surgery or a stay in the hospital ask for an Itemized statement . A couple of weeks ago when I came out of surgery the nurse ask me if I was thirsty and I should have said no. A cup of sprite cost me 5$. They got us over a barrel!

Thats the very reason our insurance costs are out of control. I Think if there is a way to fix the excessive spending....we would be ok with the system we have in place. In a way I would like to see a program where everyone is in the same " Pool " if you want to call it that...but I am afraid if we are not careful it will fail miserably!!! Just a little afraid to give the government control of anything....I dont know why...they do such a great job with all the other programs!! emoBigsmile

Well on this note since I work in the health insurace field and I take questions regarding allot of these questions. On our side, the health care industry, on hostpial costs and other medical treatments the cost to both you and the hosptial is greatly lowered by choosing providers that are in the preferred network opposed to choosing someone that is not. When we ahve contracts with those providers we can hold them to what the contracted amt which is generally lower than the price that is submitted. Allot of times the providder may bill 10,000 dollars and we may only allow them 1400 dollars. That difference they are req per the contract to write off since innet. However the problem arises when people decide not to choose participating providers. They feel like we should provider them with the same kind of coverage as the person that makes the decision to choose someone participating. When that person goes non par. that provider can charge whatever he wants and the pat. has to feel the heat of the cost. The problem in America is that we look as health care something that is supposed to cover whatever a pat. feels they "need" and there are more people that overuse the fact that they have ins than the ones than don't. My example I give people that call me is what if you had a insurance policy for coverage to go and buy whatever groceries you want. YOu would more than likely pick up those little things you ormally wouldn't and not really shop around. However since there is no such thing then we are forced to shopt with out own money and watch what we spend. As a society we have no problem or concerns for spending other peoples money, but when it comes to ours we will watch what we spend. Also there needs to be more laws passed to protect our physicians from lawsuits. I've talked to a family member which is a dentist and the amy of money providers, hospitals and others pay just to have ins is rediculous becuase of the fear of being sued. If more legislature was passed to proctect our medical personell then it could be reflected in out prices. However as ins is now starting to more consumer driven helath care plans, people will start to see a change in how we do our health care. We will then determine is it neccessary to go to the doctor 2-3 times a week when nothing is wrong with us? Another big concern is that most policies reward you for being helathy in that prev is paid @ a much higher rate. However people don't want to prev their sicknesses, they want to get sick when in some cases prev checkups may of helped prev some of the outcomes. This is just my view from where I sit bceasue I see the claims and what people do and how people are. There are some people that do care, however the people that don't are more plentiful.

I used the preferred network and a cup of sprite still cost me 5$. When I pay a premium for insurance I would also like to be able to choose which Dr. I use. With that being said, my above complaint is why an Insurance co. charges me 20% more for a pill when they buy bulk amounts to start with. It makes me think they are also in the drug business. As far as comparing groceries to medical bills I would sure hate to see what a gallon of milk would cost. Of course allt his is just my opinion and I hackle with my brother all the time who is also in the Insurance business.

Moonman, that is a good overview of how that system works. It seems that the underlying reason for so many problems with all the things around us, health care, environment or economics is the internal greed that people operate from. Everyone feels they are entitled to more and more. There same people are the ones who jump in front of you in the checkout line, act like they did not notice you looking at the candy bars waiting in line, and then never turn around, because if they don't see you, then they feel like they got away with putting one over on you. In my opinion, we are not entitled to crap, all things we have were given to us by God and we should treat them and share them as they were, for if the Lord is pleased with how we handle the little things, he will trust us with the bigger things. Regardless, toilet paper, water and electrical tape is much better than gauze, iodide, and stitches., and not staff infection.

The best solution is to stop smoking, start exercising and eat a better diet and reasonable portions.do those things and your dependence on the healthcare system would be greatly reduced. Everybody wants a pill to fix whatever ails them because they are too lazy to fix their own problems. I weigh 275 pounds but I run and lift weights 5 days a week.

Before everyone jumps my case I understand that some people have illnesses that aren't related to their lifestyle choice. Those are not the people I am talking about.

BS

Have to admit my lifestyle could use an overhaul. I don't smoke and I'm on a diet from hell but the other
vice's need improvement. I can't remember all my Granny's concoctions and sugar is to expensive for the other Remedy. I stayed off blood pressure pills for 55 years but the Dr. said I needed them now and sure wish I didn't. One thing though, As far as being dependent on the health care system I work and pay for what little benefits I receive. Maybe I will live long enough to get to eat some of the cake one day!
