I have been getting asked about these type of items. I think some of it is coming from the ads that some of the bigger companies are doing on TV right now. Most medical alerts are just a monitoring device like an alarm panel with a keyfob unit for the peson of concern. Yes....we do that. I have had several elderly people get a medical alert and have it set up to either call the Police, medical assistence or their relatives to go check on them. It allows someone that may be getting on up there or have some kind of restriction to live on their own with the ablility to contact help if needed in case of an emergency. If a person has an alarm you can add this device to it so don't let someone sell you a whole new system. emoTskTsk They are using you to buy themselves Christmas. emoDoh

Break-ins are on a all time high right now. It is the time of "Giving" and the a-holes that are around are looking at it as a time of taking. Lots of cons out there also. Around Hamiltons Place Maul there is a ton of people trying to con folks for money. I had a guy and his son hit me up two days ago at Wal-Mart for money to help them with a tire that had gone flat, they said they needed to get home and were short. He said his car was over at FireStone and he was $11.00 bucks short for them to do the work. emoScratch I told him "No" but then called Firestone to see if it was true. Firestone knew nothing about it. No one there had even talked to someone about that. emoAngry If it had been true I would have caught back up with him and helped him out. Just another con in action. There is one older black man that usually stands on one of the corners around there with a sign. He has stoud around there for the last five years and every year he changes his looks and has a different sign with some different reason he is in need for some help. It is ashame that you cannot tell who is on the level and who is not.

I had another young guy ask me for some money for food. I asked him was it really for food or for cigs or something else. He assured me he was hungry. emoAngel I walked him over to Quizno's and bought him a meal. He seemed very thankful and ate it all. I think the kid was truely hungry. Said him and a friend had come up from Florida looking for work, not found anything and had run out of money. emoRolleyes I wished him the best after he had eaten.

Be careful and aware but don't forget there is truely people in need out there that we can help with very little hardship to ourselves.

Stay safe and have a "MERRY CHRISTMAS!"

When I get a house you'll be putting the alarm system in Jim...and I can't stand cons who lie to your face.

I don't give money to anyone who asks for money only, but that person better watch out if they ask for food, I will load them up. An older man asked me downtown one day to buy him some food and we went straight to Buehlers Market and he go 6 or 7 bags full (non perishable stuff mostly) and bus fare money cause he couldn't walk back to his camp with it all. Then a younger guy asked me to help him buy some food at Walmart one time, he walked out of there with enough food for at least a week for him and his family.

That is cheap therapy, you feel so good after you directly help someone out much more so than putting money in the salvation army bucket (though that feels alright too). I will never until the day I die forget that little old man, without saying a word, give me a hug that meant more than any words of thanks. I came close to tearing up that day, and thinking about it now kind of chokes me up too!

JaSkynyrd, that is just what I am talking about!!!! emoAngel Great Job! emoWorthy We can all be angles of mercy but just be careful.

I was at Bonny Oaks and had a little black woman walk up to my truck and ask me for a ride. I asked her what was the problem and she explained to me she lived about five miles away. She had walked to the Church just off 153 and Bonny Oaks which had a food bank to get food. She had been given some bags but no one there could give her a ride back home. She had more then she could carry so she was stuck. emoAngel I told her to get in and drove over to the church she had pointed out to me. Sure enough there on a corner of the church was several bags of food. I got out, loaded it up in my truck and took her home. She was so appreciative, tried to pay me for a little gas,.... ;) ...I told her no way and the warm feeling I got was all the thanks I needed, told her, God bless her and have a great one...I thought she was tearing up a little.

Now for a con....was at a gas station and had a black man in about his fifties, I guess, walk up to me and ask for cab fair to go to a doctors appointment he was going to miss. He went on to say he got a shot for some medical condition he had so he really needed to get there badly so could I spare some money for him to call a cab. I told him I would help him out gladly, he got a big grin on his face until I told him to hop in. emoTskTsk He had a "deer in the head light look" and asked, "why?" I told him I would be glad to take him to his doctors appointment and he could just point out how to get there. He started backing up quickly....No, I do not want to put you out.....You don't have time for that.....I just needed cab fair.... emoRolleyes I told him it was no problem, I could take him and this way he could go straight there and not miss his appointment or have to wait for a cab. At that point he just looked like he had been caught, turned and walked away. Cab Fair my butt.... emoEvil Jmax
