I just do not get it. Right now the Medicare side of the government is struggling to pay for what they have. The Obama folks that oversee that are saying they are going to reduce the spending of that program by being stricter on what is paid for and what is covered. Supposedly will save millions. emoScratch I cannot help but ask myself if it was that easy why have they not already done this? emoScratch Now out of the blue from behind closed doors they come out and now intend to drop the age of Medicare from 65 to 55. emoEek Now that sounds like a great idea, more people retire since they have medicare, more jobs open up for those without them, all is good in the world..... emoScratch ...but wait. If the current program cannot hardly pay for who is on it now...how will they pay for another 25 million or so that now will be getting on it!!!!! emoDoh

We are in debt up to our eyeballs and with this we will be going in even deeper. More spending and this will if this really happens eventually lead to higher taxes in order to pay for this. I will tell you who will be paying for this....YOU WILL!!!...not me, I will be getting on it. I do not understand their thinking. We are going to reduce taxes, reduce the debt, reduce medicare spending and increase the number of people on it. :emoticon: I know we are beating this to death but every day watching the news I am amazed at what I am hearing. I think Obama needs a calculater for Chistmas, I think I will send him one. emoCrazy Jmax

And the doctors and hospitals already are refusing medicare patients because the payments are so low and slow, so now fewer people will be taken care of at more expense to those working and paying taxes! Maybe the terrorists who want to nuke DC aren't entirely wrong.................

I can't believe they are still blaming all of this on a credit crisis when in fact its a debt crisis. Everybody is in debt and can't afford anything else so our govt just wants to put themselves and us in more debt. This administration and the last are the biggest morons I could imagine. We need some common sense in DC!

BS

From what I have read is that they are proposing to put everyone from age 55 on up on medicare insurance, my monthly medicare insurance premium is $96.00, which comes out of my monthly medicare check or out of my pocket. This does not mean that people age 55 and older can retire, it means you will be charged $96.00 per month for insurance. In other words the government will not pay it, you will. You will still have to reach age 65 to retire.

But Doc they aren't going to give you a raise this year on your check but they are going to raise you medicare insurance cost. They said there was no cost of living increase this year but the politicans all agreed to give them selves a cost of living raise.

Bubba, I have always got a social security raise every year and they always go up on the insurance, I don't know if I have gained much at all over the years. I will know in january if my premiums will go up or not, I know I won't get a raise for next year. I haven't heard about about our represenatives and senators getting a raise.

Hu???? Doc I am lost...are you saying that your understanding of this is that all people over 55 will pay a medicare insurance premium but not be able to use it until they are 65? I did not get that out of what was said on TV. I understoud that people like myself who are already retired once could use the insurance if they wanted to do so and were paying the premium. I also understoud that they were doing this in hopes of getting more healthy people on that would not use the benefit and so they would be taking in more money and paying out less per person on the plan. Also by having a larger pool of people they hoped for a better rate. They need to look at how much a person already spends on medical at 55 and over. You will find it is a heck of a lot more then $96.00 so they will be using it if they are paying for it. Again...it just does not add up. emoBang Jmax

Jim, you are partly correct, if they offerit to everyone at age 55 they can use the insurance if you pay the benefits of $96.00 in my case, if you are alredy retired you will get social security benefits and insurance, if a person does not retire at 55, they can use the insurance only if they pay the $96.00 premium each month but not receive benefits. Most people don't want to retire at 55 because your benefits are cut from what you would draw at age 65, which is full benefits. If you want to keep the insurance you have now is fine but you can't have both.

I think we are saying the same thing....if I am over 55 and want to retire all I have to do is go and pay the premiums and I get the medicare. emoRolleyes If I do not want it I do not pay it so I do not receive the benefits. It does sound like someone in the Obamaism bunch finally picked up a calulater and figured out it was not going to be better but worse. emoDoh Those folks need to get into the real world. It should not have taken them this long to figure that out. I knew that the day I heard it. I think they must live in a glass bubble. I wonder how many dollars that spent to figure that one out. emoGoofy Jmax

Im not talking about Federal employees I am talking about members of congress they voted themselves a pay raise as they do every year.

I will say it again, they didn't vote themselves a raise, they get one automaticly every year.

Sniperchoke - 12/15/2009 8:21 PM Well then vote to stop the increase.

You are preaching to the choir, get in touch with every senator and represenative in the usa and tell them. They can vote to not accept the raise but I don't see any of them breaking a leg to vote the raise down this year.
