I have a 1999 Mercury OptiMax 150 that the engine light comes on occasionally. I do not have a manual to tell me what is going on. I will come on and go off after running for a minute or two. Does anyone know what the engine light is telling me? It is the light that looks like the crank turning. Thanks for any help!

Could indicate a number of issues; overheating, low oil, water in fuel, etc. Are you getting any warning beeps? Hooking your engine to a Merc diagnostic computer is the only way to tell for sure what's causing the alarm your getting. IMO, you should get your engine to a good OPTIMAX tech ASAP for proper diagnosis and fix. If you are in the area, Bunch Marine in Harriman runs a great shop. Good luck!

There are no beep signals. I can't believe it would be an indication of overheating since it shows the warning light when I first crank the engine sometimes. I thought the low oil was indicated by a beep. When I first tried out the boat before buying it, there was evidently a vacuum in the oil reservoir. I had to remove the cap and fill the reservoir up to the top. The beeping stopped and has never done it again. I really appreciate your input and your right about needing to get it in. I've read a lot of good comments about Bunch, but Harriman is a long haul from Cleveland. Of course, it might be worth the drive and haul.

Anyone else have knowledge of what is being indicated????

Sort of surprised you're not getting a beep(s), but not familiar with your particular setup. You mentioned your getting it at startup. Low battery voltage can also cause an alarm. Does it ever alarm when you trim up/down? Opti motors require a fully charged battery with at least 1000 MCA's. Might try cleaning all your terminals and posts at the battery. Then make sure they are TIGHT. Don't blame you for wanting to get service locally, if possible. The guys down your way should be able to give you some recommendations. Bunch will be worth the drive if you can't find a good local shop. They do service by appointment and will keep your rig out of the weather. Have a good one!!

COULD BE A PORT OR STRABOARD THERMOSTAST ON THE HEADS STICKING, MAY BE BAD WARNING LIGHT AND HORN, COULD BE HARD TO FIND THIS PROBLEM , GOOD LUCK !!
