My 1997 Mercury 150hp won't take off. It will start to come on plane and then it is like something is slipping. There are no unusual noises that I hear but there seems to be some vibration. I went fishing today and it was fine until I started to move from the place I was fishing. It will idle and move about 5mph but when you try to take off it starts slipping. I had to idle about 6 or 7 miles back to the dock. I took the prop off and everything looks fine there. Anybody ever had this problem before? Any suggestions? emoBang emoScratch

Sounds like the propeller hub spun and is now slipping under load. Pull it and take it in to a prop shop and they'll fix it for you.

The prop is a solid spline prop. It doesn't have the 2 part hub in it. I know the 2 part hubs will slip, but will the solid splined hubs slip also?

Yeah, the pressed hub style will spin. I think it was about $60-$70 last I knew to have a new one pressed in. Often when it happens you can't idle above about 1000-1200 rpm without it slipping. Long ride at idle, but it does get you home! emoLaugh

Yep, Mr. EricM you were right. Not only are you a champion fisherman, but a real nice guy! Thanks for your help and Merry Christmas. emoLaugh

Had same problem last year. Went to the prop shop over in Soddy (Dan's Prop Shop I think) and he fixed me right up. Mine was a rubber bushing and I think it was like $50.
