A buddy has an 1980 model Merc 40 horse. When you squeeze the primer bulb fuel run out of the carburetor. I am assuming its something with the float and the carb probably needs a rebuild. Anybody ever mess with these? Are they a pain to rebuild? Its an odd looking carb, I don't mess with Mercs much. Any leads on best place to get kit/float for it? Any help appreciated.

That is it James thanks! Up until this it was running well. May just throw a new float in her and see what happens.

Just pull the 2 screws off (#12 and #13) and pull the float out and look at it. If it has fuel in it, it will be easy to tell. May also be a piece of trash in the needle and seat. You will have it in your hand when you look at the float. Pull it apart and and clean it.
