I’ve been running Merc Synthetic HDI oil since I owned my boat. No problems, but it’s very expensive. Any comparable oils that are quality at a good price?

you're right, dfi oil is expensive. Premium Plus I use on my Opti. It states right on the bottle- good for all injector systems. Lucas also has a good oil just check the bottle. Most oil is TCW 3 compliant but it needs to claim it is safe for all injector systems. so read the bottle.

I would stick with DFI oil. It is made for the Pro XS, I have a 1050 hours on mine. I know on the xs , not pro xs you suppose to use pennzoil XLF.

The less expensive alternatives are ~ $8 less per gallon. Run hard and long, I bet that's about $2 - $4 per outing. How much would downtime cost in $ and frustration especially during these times of scarce parts and pieces? I'm sticking with OEM recommendations even if it is a bit of marketing hype just to be on the safe side as much as I can.

I used to run Pennzoil 100% Synthetic. I can't find it anymore. So, I switched to Amzoil 100% Synthetic. I prefer these oils due to little to no carbon buildup.

quicksilver and Mercury is bottled by a Phillips 66 subsidiary. The Quicksilver P+ blend is the same oil as the Mercury DFI blend. They dye the merc a dark amber and P+ is dyed a dark blue.

SOPUS (Shell/Penzoil) is warning its distributors of heavy shortages coming down the pipe for all of its products. But I wouldnt use that crap in anything I own anyway

I will add 1 other thing, I've also been using 8oz of premium plus to 10 gals of gas along with 1oz of seafoam per gallon of gas. Don's cocktail includes this with quickleen, but I've used Seafoam since day 1. It may sound expensive, as said above its much better than downtime for rebuild and finding parts.
