I developed a rough idling issue on my 96 Merc 150Xr-6 with/carbs. It runs well out of the hole through to top end, but I notice the engine jumping/shaking slightly during idle. I replaced the spark plugs and the primer bulb. I noticed three of the plugs with some pitting. It doesn't idle as rough as before the plug and bulb replacement, but still it doesn't idle smooth as I would like.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks,
Basshopper

James,
I ran it a lot until Dec. I ran it twice during December, none in Jan, once in Feb and twice in March. It had old gas in it from Dec and I put some fresh on top of the old in Feb and ran it all out that day. That was when I first noticed it idling rough.

Thanks James,

David

Put some Berrymans B-12 in it at 1 ounce per gallon. If the fuel tried to varnish, this will help clean the carbs. You may be surprised at the results! What octane did you pu on top of the old fuel?

87 octane / no alcohol from Exxon

I will try the Berryman's B-12 ... I did a look up and it is available at about any parts store, so this product shouldn't be hard to find. I will let you know after the weekend as I plan on running at least one tank of gas maybe two.

Thanks James,

David

I picked up a can of B-12 and a new pair of tennis shoes for less than $20.00 at Wal-mart this morning. I will be on my way to Guntersville early Saturday morning. I will let you guys know if the B-12 works when I return Sunday night.

Thanks for all your help fellows,

David

I was on the big G Saturday afternoon and had issues with the cranking battery. The battery wouldn't jump off, so I figured it shorted out. I swapped one of the trolling batteries over so we could fish a while. The trolling motor was slow but lasted the 3 hours we fished. I didn't get to run as much B-12 through as i would have liked. The engine is still shaking at idlel.

A couple of weeks ago I replaced the primer bulb because I thought it was leaking but evidently it is gas dripping out of the motor unto the bulb when the motor is tilted over the transom. I'm going to pull the cover off and see if I can notice what is leaking. This may have something to do with the engine miss.

I have been working so much that I haven't had time to pop the cal off. I'm going to get off at 5pm this afternoon and I will pull it off and let you know if I find the leak or not with an update this afternoon.

Thanks James,

Basshopper
