hopefully the doc cuts me loose in the next couple months, and i can go this year,so i thought i would make sure the stratos is ready to go,i read a couple articles that stated if i had the gray fuel line it needs to go due to the insides coming apart from the ethanol, its a 2003 225 efi,its got a engine mounted fuel/water filter on it,i cut it open, looks good inside, anyone out there seen any issues with the gray line? should i replace it with a new mercury line? i see they are still gray on mercury web site?

Wow!!! I need the answer to this one too! First time I've heard of it.....Jim

Most of the grey line is alcohol resistant and will hold up against the ethanol. Most people don't realize we have had "ethanol" since the mid 80's. The level of awarness and amount that is added to fuel has increased. Your line should stated alcohol reististant that is on it. If not, change it. just my .02

yep, not sure were those guys lived from the article i read, they may have been from different part of the usa, mercury has a revised line assy.jan.1 2009...$45.00 shipped...been a while since i worked, but we were having some fuel related isssues in them dodges..i think i'll take a peek at mine today and replace it if needed

yeah, its true. the gray mercury line is no good. I just had mine changed out last week. mine still looked ok too, but the marina working on it showed me some other gray lines that had completely disintegrated. he also showed me the report stating that it would not hold up to the ethanol. I would change it if I were you. fuel line isnt expensive and its an easy change out. powerheads are expensive and they are hard to change out.

There is more than 1 gray fuel hose. If it states ALCOHOL reistant, it is fine. Ethanol is Alcohol. If it has no markings, replace it. The sierra 2000 is a very good fuel hose and some boats have it on them already. Just my .02

When I worked for Dodge, about the only fuel related issue we saw was phase seperation. This is when the vehicle would sit and the fuel would seperate. The fuel looked like milk.

Where do you get the sierra 2000 hose? Is the hose and bulb assemblies you buy at WalMart or Academy ok to use?

Walmart has a very good universal hose assembly that states it is alcohol resistant. It is about $30. The sierra 2000 can usually be bought at most marina's per foot but most have probably changed to Silverado 3000 as it states it is that it is ethanol resistant and meets all requirements of carb today. Again, ethanol is alcohol. If the hose has a B1 or B2 stamped on it, it is alcohol resistant. Keep in mind what "resistant" means. But, as Jim stated fuel hose is relatively cheap and to give you peace of mind change it. If the fuel hose fails, the filter will catch it before it gets to the injectors or carbs unless the hoses on the engine is actually what fails. If this happens it loses fuel, you will defiantly notice a loss of power and would have to continue driving it with a problem to kill the power head. Common sense would tell you not to continue to drive it.But as usual that is not always the case. just my .02

Here is alink for the description of Silverado 3000 with some number you can google to find some.

napa got the 3000 complete line assy..$44.00

I've bought a assy from Wally World and Academy and while both will work, the hoses are oriented to where I will have to have the bulb inside the hull of the boat and will have to lift the rear lid to pump it up. Not a big deal, but I'd rather have it laying in the well next to the engine like my old one. Did you have a problem with this with the one from NAPA? I may just go buy some fuel line and a bulb and put it together myself if they don't sell them like my old one anymore. Thanks, Jim
