mercury lifting ring

Find a big nut at any hardware store, weld a half ring onto the nut and take the flywheel nut off the mercury and screw this one on. You now have a lifting ring for a couple of bucks.

You find a nut with the same threads as the one on the mercury and make the lifting ring, they do make different size nuts you know. If you can't figure out which nut to buy, take the nut off the mercury and take it with you to the hardware store, it's easy, a kid could do it.

That would be fine, but make sure you torque the flywheel nut back to speck

he is talking about using the threads on top of the crankshaft, where the flywheel nut is....not the threads inside the flywheel.

I would just get a lift ring, this is how these motors were designed to be lifted

I cannot believe some people are as innocent as new born babes, some can't do anything, some can. I was talking about a do it your self thing. You can buy any size nut almost anywhere in the chattanooga area, Lowe's might even have it, hardware stores, Chatt. nut and bolt,  and especially Walter A. Wood. If you don't want to save yourself some money, go buy it where ever you can find it and don't even ask how much.
