I have a '03 225 hp Mercury EFI. I have always used Quicksilver in my old Mercury and plan on doing the same with the new one. Question is, there is red label Premium oil and Black label Premium Plus... I've read the labels with little difference, but I was wondering if there is one or the other that I SHOULD be using. Thanks for the help....Jim

jim,i got the service manual here for 225/250/3.0,recommended oil quicksilver or mercury precision lubricants nnma/bia certified tc-w3 2 cycle outboard oil,3gallons {11.4 liter},,honestly hadn't noticed the labels,,,,brushhog

I believe the Premium Plus is a synthetic/dino blend where the Premium is pure dino. The Merc DFI oil, recommended for most Optimax engines, is a 100% synthetic product. You could probably look on the Merc site and find out for sure.

yea that could be,i know the opti's are picky, that 225 efi is one of mercury's best engines,,,iv'e been told by the boys at the merc factory in wisconsin, they said it is the most cost effective as warrenty repairs go on any hp motor they make,,
