Hey guys, thanks for the advice that you all gave me on lake selection in the discussion forum last week. After listening to what you all had to say as well as some additional research of our own, we decided to go to Guntersville and put in at Mud Creek. My buddy got the skunk off the boat in spectacular fashion, pulling in 2 small bass on one rat-l-trap. First time I'd ever seen a lure come back with a fish on each treble hook. We fished in Mud Creek from about sun up to noon putting several in the boat on creature baits on the edge of the creek channel. After that, we peaked into the neighboring creeks, but weren't ever able to locate many fish outside of Mud Creek. When all was said and done, we ended up putting 13 in the boat with the biggest being about 3lbs I'd guess (need to invest in a legitimate scale).

The interesting thing for us was that we probably missed double the amount we caught. I'm not sure if we were burying the hook tip too deep, or if these bass were just taking forever to get the bait fully in their mouth, but by the end we were waiting until we felt the full weight of the fish before even thinking about setting the hook. That seemed to help, and my guess is that adding that tension before setting probably got the hook turned around in their mouth and better prepared. (this could be bass fishing 101 for some of you, but its not an issue we've really run into before)

Anyways, it was a good first experience on Guntersville and we are dying to get back down there ASAP and build on what we learned.
