Well I just bought a new trolling motor, and I must say it is amazing what a hundred more dollars will get you. I had an Edge before, and it caught on fire twice.....in the foot pedal, the wires were cut too short and rubbed the switch terminations. It finally shorted out....It had only 5 speeds, which made it hard to troll for crappie, or beating the bank was either too slow or hauling butt.
The Maxxum has a better speed dial with a rheostat, so speeds are more adjustable. The momentary switch is a relay, so the voltage does not travel through the switch causing it to "burn out".
I hate motorguide and almost bought one after I bent the armature in the Edge, but I read alot of bad things about motorguide, so I stuck with the Minn Kota.
I bought the maxxum at BPS Sevierville, and it was $689.00, and I belive was well worth the investment.
