Called Rrigsby last night to see if he wanted to go sometime this week. He said last night would be the night with the front moving in and the full moon. Man was he right. We got out right after dark and went to some points that were shallow but near deaper water. Within 5 minutes I hooked into a hog. It jumped one time and I knew it was by far the largest bass I had ever seen in a lake. We got it near the boat quickly and it took off. It made one more effort and jumped again and spit out the spinner bait. Ive never been so dejected, Ryan didnt make it much better saying, "at least you fooled em"/ He also said that COULD have been the largest bass he has seen out of that lake. For him to say that is saying something for me.... We went back and forth but we guess it somewhere between 7-45 pounds. emoLaugh

The night went on and we caught several more fish. I have posted a couple of Rigsbys fish that would go 2-3 pounds and then I hung into a personal best on a spinner bait that we guess to go 5-6 pounds. I guess the big fish Gods were with me last night. Im suprised they stuck with me after I gave them a serious tongue lashing! Rigsby finished the night off by breaking his back on a big Drum.

All fish were caught in basically the same enviornment, shallow points with deep water near by, or docks with lights around them. All of mine on a black and blue spinner bait.

Thanks again Ryan.

Those are really good fish guys don't feel to bad. You will get another chance as long as you continue to go. Anything is possible. What time in the P.M. was this?

Great report hooker. Sorry you had to loose the big'un. The Chick has been giving up a few nice fish here lately. Hmmm ... the water stays up and the grass starts coming back ... could it be a sign? That 5+ needs to start thinking about lite beer ... what a gut! You guys had a great evening to be out. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Nice fish guys! Too bad about the loss but didn't your heart beat fast for a few minutes!?! I agree with Rob about the water and the weeds. Seems like a combination for some hogs.

My heart was thumping out of my chest. It was the first time with a new rod/reel and I was fumbling trying to get my drag loosened up. Just a bad combo for a bad fisherman. If it were day light I think we could have netted him (If we had a net lol). The bite was on from about 6PM (when we got out there) to about 8:30. It shut down after that! Here is one more just b/c im proud.

emoSorry you lost your big fish but it sounds like you had a very good trip. I'm not sure why you went last night, I didn't know the wind was blowing. emoPoke Good report and congrads on your fish emoThumbsup

Great report, thanks for sharing, that is what keeps you going back.emoThumbsup Jmax

Nice pics Hooker. Seems like everytime you go with me we catchem. Boy, I wish we could have got that fish in the boat!!! I feel for you, man! Don't worry though you'll get another shot at one like that when you go back down to Florida in the spring...Ten pounders are just to hard to come by around here. emoPoke No, it was atleast 7 maybe a little more. It's hard to tell at night even with a fairly well light night. Hooker, had him close to the boat twice! That 14lb test just couldn't keep him there. Very good fish regardless. Atleast you fooled 'em! That's what my dad used to tell me when I was younger.

This is my most favorite time of year to fish after dark! No bugs, no boats, bass getting fat for winter, and the fishing can be pretty dang good on the right night. The fish don't slam the bait as hard as they do in the summer but they can still put up a tough fight once on. I had a good feeling we were going to have a good night. After a tough weekend of fishing (from water I heard about the Chick), I thought those better fish would be feeding at night especially with a front approaching and a near full moon.

The water temp was around 60 degrees and, it could stand to be a little cool too. A little breeze for the south had a slight chop on the water for the first hour or so which really helped. All fish came form rocks next to deep water inside of coves and creeks (secondary points). We didn't do any good out near the river on the FEW places we checked. The bait of choice was 1/2oz black/blue spinnerbaits, w/ gold #5 colorado and zoom chunck on the back. Cutthroat sells a 1/2oz spinnerbait in this set-up with a great thump for night fishing. The Drum was caught on the river with a 3/4oz jig for you Drumheads.

I'm looking forward to see everyone at Weiss this Saturday! emoRolleyes emoRolleyes

See Jmax, the spinnerbait is the way to go at night much of the time. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that is hooked on that bait at night. The thump from that blade is awesome and the fish feel it. It's lots more fun and you can cover more water with a spinnerbait than you can plastics. Great report guys! What part of the lake were you guys fishing? Not specifics but just curious how far up or down the lake it was. Thanks.

Hook, I've got a net you can have. I meant to bring it Thursday, but I was afraid the wind would catch it on the walk to the ramp and off I'd be like the Flying Nun.

Awsome report! If you think loosing that guy hurts, stay away from the deer woods! I have had my heart broken this year.
