Man it's just plain ole "fun" when a plan comes together, even when it's a couple of different plans! I had a couple of clients last week that I had put on some topwater fish for their stay here and they ended up catching some nice fish in the 4-6 lb. range the next morning, so I decided this morning that I would take a gentleman from Georgia that had booked me for a hlaf day trip and see if we might could get on a couple of "nice-uns" in this same area. When we got there the grass had really taken off in just over a week but knowing that these fish wouldn't move very far I tied the both of us on a Black Snag Proof Poppin Phattie. The reason behind the Poppin Phattie was that the grass was thick but also scattered in a lot of areas, so there just wasn't enough to use the regular frog just yet. Within a few casts my client had one to just "erupt" on his Phattie and burry him in the grass, and with him only able to use a spinning rod with 25 lb. Vicious braid he just could not get the fish out of the grass fast enough. Then after a couple of minutes of laughing about missing the big fish I had one do the same to my Phattie, but this time the results were a little better. This fish absolutely "exploded" on my Phattie and there was no doubt it was a "good-un", and my 7'6" Extra Heavy Hammer Rod with 20 lb. Vicious EXACT Line I had a blast getting this fish in the boat for a quick pic and a release. We only had one more big fish to blow up on the Phattie and missed but we also caught a few more nice quality fish before the sun came up. Now comes plan #2, we moved out to some areas that had some deeper scattered grass and decided to swim a 10" worm to see if I could show this guy a great time of just catching a few fish before the day ended, and a great time he(we) had. We used these worms around grass in 8-10 ft. of water and just mainly used a steady slow retrieve, and the action started as soon as we pulled into our first area. We stayed with this area for the couple of hours we had left and had a blast catching some good numbers of nice quality fish that included a couple of doubles like in the picture, and had no problem knowing when they "slammed" these big worms. A great day of fishing on the "Big-G" so get out and have fun. Mike Carter
