emoBang Why do I continue to do this every week? The chances of me winning one of these things are slim to none and slim just left town!I do it to feed my competative drive,to become the best, if only for one night, bassfisherman in the club. But I suck! and the group of guys I fish with really don't suck. How these guys can catch 5 keeper bass week after week in such a short amount of time, and so consistantly is beyond me! I can go out any day of the week under just about any conditions and catch bass, I do it all the time. What I can't do is catch Keeper bass.
All the rules that you read in bassmaster and the internet etc. do not apply to the Hiwassee river. It is posessed and it hates me!There are no fish in that river and it should be drained for the good of humanity!
Anyway I lost again if you couldn't tell already. I don't know the winning weight or who won cause I wasn't really paying attention when my partner told me.
We started in gunstocker creek where jason did so well on Sat. and that just shows how fast conditions changing can alter fish behavior. The water had come up about 2 feet from Sat. and there was not a fish to be found back there.I don't know where the went so fast but they scattered and so did we after about an hour! We left there and went looking for that deep point out from coppinger creek, and after about 20 min of idleing back- and- forth decided it wasn't there anymore.I think the floods had a greater impact on the wassee than the TN. river.
anyway we fished some flooded islands and caught fish here and there just nothing to put in the livewell. So we decided to give gunstocker another try since the sun was sinking by then.Thats when it happend, the most violent storm I have ever been caught in on the water!I swear I thought we were done for.I my not have the best fishing instincs, but when it comes to where to be when a thunderstorm is about to hit I never seem to be wrong.Last week it was the marina this week it was the bridge at gunnstocker.Although I'm not so sure it was the best place to be because we almost, well we did, get blown out from under it before it was over with. You ever see the video of the people who hide under a bridge from that tornado? Thats what it reminded me of! Very scary stuff.
Well thats it, zeroed again but I'll keeep on till I win because I still believe I can do it! Just have to go back to the drawing board and keeep studying! Peace out!

Sorry to hear that you are so frustrated with the dogfights. There are lots of good fishermen out there and they fish lots and have many good spots to pick from. Let's hope that you will pick up some good info from this forum that will get you connected with those better fish.

I was thinking to myself last night "I wonder if ranman will hit that spot in Gunstocker?" Then the rain came and along with it a violent electrical storm and I thought "I hope he stayed close to a bridge!"

Sorry the area did not pan out for you. I had figured you would do as well as us, if not better. Saturday was a rare day in that we spent the majority of it fishing spinnerbaits...not too common for this time of year on the Hiwassee. A sudden increase in water would definitely have a negative impact on those shallow flats.

With the water level up in the back of Gunstocker, were you able to see the logs on either side of the the creek channel?

That's the green rally-time star! That means your gonna catch some good green-back soon! Keep at it Ranman - at least you're out there on the water competing with a positive attitude - Your time will come!
