I have not beat up the forum with a lot of these posts but I thought while I was thinking about a couple recent ones I went to I would mention them on here.

Went to a home yesterday in Ooltewah where a neighborhood has just recently been broke into. The lady I was quoting was not the one broke into but she told me her neighbor got hit and they took a bunch of stuff. She then told me a black older truck has been seen around their streets on several occasions just driving around and then stopping just watching. The last time they saw it they called the police but by the time they showed up the truck had left. The people there believe the truck may have been casing their homes and may have been the ones who broke into the home that was hit. This all makes prefect sense. Often especially right after school starts break ins go up in occurrence. The kids are now at school and most parents today both work so the home is usually left empty in the mornings and early afternoons. The woman I was seeing had decided to come on with us after the truck had been seen and the police told her this.

Another one in Rossville was broke into and they took their big screen TV and some jewelry. The computers were old and they had left them. Other electronics had been moved to the hall but left so she thought they had been spooked or planned to come back but did not make it. She told me the most money she was out was fixing the frame where they had kicked in the back door. emoBang A new frame, door and locks all had to be replaced. Her deductible was $1,000.00 and her insurance carrier told her to get an alarm. She had lived there for over 35 years and had never been broke into before. I told her it just goes to show us all how bad it is getting with crooks today.

Lastly...another home off of German Town Road was hit and he had about the same results as the one above. Got him for his electronics, a lap top, a TV and some other random stuff. This one too was a kick in at the back door. Bunch of damage.

The good thing is that all three of these places are now covered by Action Alarms. emoThumbsup If someone tries that again we will know it and so will the neighbors. Not to mention with a 30 watt siren blaring out they will more then likely go running.

As in the first case...keep an eye out for cars and trucks not usually in your neighborhood. If they keep coming around it would not hurt to call the police if they are not giving sign as to why they are there. If you have an alarm and would like to see if we can take it over give me a call. If you already have one and it is being monitored by one of my competitors...before the contract expires give me a call and lets see if I can save you some money by coming on with us. If you have no alarm but are thinking about one give me a shout and we can see what we can do for you. It does not cost anything for me to come out and give you a quote.

Stay safe and aware..... emoPolice Action Alarms, 423-298-4348....Jmax

I have a question. A guy came by the other day selling alarm systems. Devcon to be exact. Anyway, he told me that systems such as ADT, relies on home phone access. He told me that all a THIEF has to do....is CUT your phone line, and your security system is useless. Whats your take on this? He was pushing the cell-phone stuff.

He speaks the truth. But ADT does offer cells as well. The issue is that a phone line is just the communication source. Cut the phone line and you have cut that source. The alarm system will still work, the devices will work, the siren will go off and all will appear to be functioning as it should. However if the phone line was down or cut the system would be trying to send a message to the monitoring center and it would not be able to do so. With a cell unit the communication source functions like that of a cell phone. It cannot be cut because it is wireless. In that case you would still be able to send the signal. Keep in mind, a bugler does not know what you have on your system so it may have the same results no matter what when the siren goes off.

Many of our customers with high theft areas and businesses use the cell and some use both. The cell can be more reliable to send a signal of a break in. Even with a cell you can still break in. For example, if I knew of someone who was going on an extended vacation and let that be known. I could go to that person's home...cut the power and the phone line. Wait say 36 hours and return. The power is now off, the phone line is now dead and the back up battery is now expired. I can assess your home without a worry. That is one reason to not be telling people when you leave for an extended period of time but I see it all the time on forums such as ours and face book. That is an invitation to be broke into. emoBang Jmax

I remember years ago watching a news show on which they interviewed burglars behind bars. They asked about security systems, and they all laughed. They were no big deal. The biggest deterrent? If someone has a dog. They're unpredictable, loud, and you can't shut them up until you're inside.

Also, this whole thread is testimony to the need for good neighbors. I'm not saying move into the Ritz-Carlton. I'm saying talk to your neighbors, know who they are, and look out for each other. We're supposed to live in community, and neighborhoods that do this well don't suffer as much of this jive.

Years ago the systems were nothing like they are now. They are a lot harder to beat and in some cases you cannot beat them unless you have a lot of time. Most often you don't have the time. Today most burglers will just skip homes with systems and go to those who don't have one. Good nieghbors are hard to beat as well. Nosey neighbors are really good to have for that reason too. emoBigsmile WE are not talking about stopping James Bond from breaking into your home. We are talking about our normal thug, gang banger or crack head that is doing most of the stuff around here. A good system will work. emoThumbsup Jmax

Thank's for that info I will have to try that on my next job so just cut the power and phone line and wait 36 hours that's simple enough

Just so you know...where there is a will there is a way. emoAngel You can add a power pack so that if the power goes out or is cut it will last longer then that. emoBigsmile Jmax
