Would this be a good gun to get for my mom? She would use it as home-self defense only. Her .38 scares her and she wants a pump. thanks

Yes it would, the smaller overall frame is lighter and easier to handle. The lighter kicking 20 ga loads also help.

That is a great gun for the money. I have 3 Model 500's and have never had a misfire.

i have one just like it it works great i use it for dove and big rats with long tails my daughter uses it for rabbits but for home protection the lenth is a bit much hard to move around in tight places but still a great gun
