just moved to the area and want to start fishing local tournaments. im sure there are good fishermen everywhere but there always seems to be one crowd of guys that are just hard to beat; those are the guys I want to fish against. which tournaments would you guys recommend?

CBA is that group here locally. We just finished up our season this past weekend. You can go to cbatournament.com for more information and the season will kick-off in February.

I have to agree the CBA is the flagship tournament trail around here. I don't know if you're into night fishing at all, but if you are you'll want to try out the Harrison Bay Night Series next summer. This isn't a club so you can fish or not whenever you feel like but we had a pretty good classic that paid $1000 for the win and we managed to pay out every spot after that. These guys can catch some fish after dark and it took over 20 pounds several times to win with 3 fish. If you want to join a club and fish a for points during the season, like I said before the CBA is what you're looking for and you'll have ALL the competition you can handle lol.

yeah after hearing that Buddy Gross and Alex Davis won the CBA classic I figured that would be one trail to get into. ive been places where it was not uncommon for elite/flw tour guys to show up regularly to certain tourneys while others local t's wouldn't let them fish.

the evening/night tournaments can be fun, I will definitely be getting in on some of them, was just looking for the most competitive crowd

You figured right. CBA. Allows guides and has several fishing it. Also the pro's will show up sometimes. Plus several of the local ringers. It is a tough one to win in but fishing it will make you work harder and bring your "A" game. emoAngel Jmax

Wish I could compete jamax is ringer too watch for that guy lol I can't fish because I don't have a BOAT but yes I think it's the it's the best of the best around here good luck to everyone

The CATCH Ministry Trail is also a very competitive trail but we fish Chickamauga and Watts Bar. We average about 45 boats per event. Entry fees are not as much and so pay outs are not as much. Great bunch of guys. We have had a pro or two and a guide or two so up from time to time. Most of our guys and a couple of gals are just weekend warriors.

We have all heard the old saying, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Well I guess when it comes to fishing the saying needs to be, "Ringer is in the eye of the angler." emoAngel Local ringers to me are Michael Neal, Rogie Brown, Haden Lamb, his dad Greg Lamb, Steve Kite, Chuck and Brad James. Buddy Gross, there are some more but those come to mind right off. emoBigsmile Year after year these guys will be around the top of the field and usually win one or maybe two. However you never know, there is always one or two teams that seem to show up that have never won before that do win one each year. I am not sure but I believe the only repeat winners in 2016 were Haden Lamb and Trevor Porter. They won twice this year. It is a fun tournament circuit but one you need to go into knowing that winning is a premium and just placing in the top ten is an accomplishment.

You also need to go into it knowing you might have an Elite Pro like Michael Neal, Andy Morgan, Jacob Wheeler, Buddy Gross or who knows sitting next to you at blast off. So if one of them do show up, spank your butt and take your money you were fore warned. There are no restrictions on guides and Pro's so don't complain if it happens. I think it takes us to another level. When you fish against these types of folks and you beat them, it is a feeling you really did something. emoTongue Laugh if you want but just this classic when we came in forth, Derek was talking with me and a couple others at the weigh in and made the comment, "Well, we might not have won but we did beat Rogie in this one." emoLaugh They all chuckled but agreed. emoSmile Jmax

oh I get it, which is why I am asking this question. I want to fish against the best guys around here. I used to fishing with and against the best so that doesn't bother me, it motivates me!

thanks for all the info guys, see ya on the water!

oh and since all the trails are done til feb, what do you guys fish in the winter?

There is a group called "The Frostbite" tournaments that go through the winter months. It is every Saturday out of Chester Frost. Just keep watching on here and you will see some info come up soon. Some of us deer hunt more in the winter then we fish. emoAngel Jmax
