motor honing!

Hey U-all, I'm rebuilding an old 55 horse Evenrude to put on a pontoon boat. I need the cylinders checked for tapering and although they look fairly clean, I think I will have them honed. I will need to purchase new rings, lower rod bearings and pistons.
I would prefer to do it all at one place, but it's not a have to. It may be just me, but when I get something worked on or buy something for a boat I feel like they see me coming, "if you know what I mean", does anyone have any favorite places? I live in Etowah.....thanks......Tony:

I've been pretty satisfied with Car Quest in Cleveland. They just charge by the hour. They don't care what it's out of.

I don't know about the parts. I know I never buy ball bearings from parts dealers. I always go to the bearing houses Like Dixie or Bearings and Drives or Mechanical Drives and get a name brand bearing. I can get a $90.00 Harley Bearing for $35 that way. Probably the same thing on rings if you know exactly what you want. A ring is a ring. Rods are another thing...

I've been really busy this week and just read your post. I'm very familiar with Johnson / Evinrude motors and can help you out if you want to rebuild your motor yourself. A previous post mentioned Nichols Machine service which is who I use for my all of my block work and always get excellent work done.

If you want to call me on Monday (706) 891-9921 <CHATT MARINE>. I can give you a rough estimate of what all the parts will cost you. If you would like you can bring in your parts and I'll give you my recommendation of what you should replace.

I'm at Nichols Machine at least once a week and I'll be glad to drop your block off for inspection and work if it needs it. I'll give you a good package price on the parts and machine work.

If you are going to rebuild your motor yourself I would highly recommend buying a service manual if you don't already have one.
