I should have known it was going to be a bad day when I went to pick up the boat out of storage and I could tell someone had been all inside of the boat. emoEnforce They caught the guy he was Antony Artrip from America's Most Wanted. He got a flashlight and a couple of tools and end up stealing a truck from the storage place. Well let's go fishing, get the boat in the water and the motor won't start. Postive cable terminal broke but luckily he left an adjustable wrench and was able to hook up to the accessory wingnut on the battery. Off we go and man what a pretty day outside. We caught a few and was able to see a couple of low spots. Lets go home and emoAngry motor started but we had no power/torque and at full throttle was only able to go about 15mph. Rpm guage does not work. Looking at waves they were just bubbling and not spreading out like wavesemoScratch . Finally got to HBSP reverse and foward worked just not alot of power. Its a 1974 Chrysler 105hp and its been great for last 6yrs I've owned it.

thanks

if the boat has been sitting a while i would think that maybe the water pump has gone out , is it squirting water out the pee tube ? then second i would do a compression check to see what the compression is in all cylinders, it is possiable that one of the carbs isnt working and that will kill the power/torque , i dont know alot about the crysler motors but they all do about the same thing
may be as simple as the fuel bulb not working right ?!
thats just a few things to check , and does that 74 model have a power pack on it ? a bad battery conn, could have blown it maybe that will help you narrow some things down

Sounds as if you have some dirty carbs on the motor, letting a motor sit for any length of time will gum up the carbs. Clean the carbs, clean any filters you may have, put new gas in the boat. Check to make sure the water pump is working and it wouldn't be a bad idea to change it, there is no telling how old it is. Dirt daubers and bugs will stop up anything in a stored boat.

PS, the crysler motors are simple motors about like lawnmower motors, not a whole lot to go wrong with them, not a lot of electronics.

I don't have anywhere to store it so when I want to go I go get it from storage. 3~4 times a month. I had just went out early in the month twice. Normally it has about a 1/2 tank of gas and I filled it up hoping for long day. Water pump was working because I checked the stream in the back and it had a good flow. It does have a power pack and the previous owner said he had replaced it. My prop has a cotter pin and it was still in 1 piece but I'll double check that.emoThanks

If whom ever messed with the batteries then they could have hit the hot post with the neg. wire and blew the recetfier and some of those engines would miss when that happened or would not run at all. Do a recetfier test to see if its down.

I have a 1975 chrysler 75 hp. the ignition system is seperate from the charging system so i doubt if its the regulator.if its runing and not missing and not powering up, i would say its a fuel issue. i would try a tank of fresh gas and add a can of sea foam then go and run it to let sea foam work, before i started tearing it down. sea foam is available at most auto part stores. GOOD LUCK

First, I would check to see if it has a replaceable fuel filter. As much as you run it, it doesn't sound like gummed up carbs. I would get a boot to feed water to the pump and run the engine in the driveway. You can get carb cleaner that sprays into the carbs and that might help.

What I think you don't want to do is put the boat in the lake and then start tinkering with it. You might can find the problem in the driveway.
