Well, I have said this year I seemed to be snake bit and yesterday was no exception. Went out a couple hours before the dog fight and did not make it far. I was up river about five miles, humming along about 65 and without warning the engine started to putter and choke. Started slowing down before I got my foot off the gas.:( Came off plain and the motor was struggling to stay running. Checked my lights on the dash but none were on.emoScratch Engine died and even thou I could start it, as soon as I put it in gear it would die.emoDoh I have no idea what is causing my problem but needless to say I look to be boatless for a while. I called Mr. Wiskers who was suppose to be my partner for the Tx and he was just getting off to come my way to fish. He got his boat and towed me back to HBSP.emoWorthy Thanks for the Tow there Wiskers. Anyone know a good Evinrude person that could look mine over without charging me an arm and leg? Could a spark plug or two fouling out cause this? I have not changed them since I bought it last year but it gave no sign of messing up. I am really having a bad run of luck, first my computor, then my cell phone and now my engine.emoBadLanguage I am hoping that it is not serious.Jmax

Take it over to Glen Gamble. It sounds like water in fuel, maybe a fuel filter, or something electrical. I doubt it is spark plugs. I keep seafoam in my gas now since they started adding in ethanol. If you are in whisker's boat saturday you will get to flip tubes at barge tie offs, bridge pilings, and rip rap all day. You might catch some sssppppaaaaattttsss!

Glen Gamble ie Outboard Doc. Sort of located across from Jacks bait in the old Bob Craft Bldg. His number is in the book don't have it at my fingertips.

That describes fuel starvation. Check all your fuel lines from the tank to the pump. If it has a bad line that will suck air it will do this way. I doubt it is a electrical because when that happens it goes into a dead miss or just shuts straight down with a no start.
After you get it going I would invest in a water fuel seperatopr on it just to keep all the water out of the motor.

I agree with Bubbakat...... you may have a kink or something pinching a line....I had that problem once upon a time......something had gotten on top of the fuel line cutting it's supply off.....strange happenings...sorry. Jmax...things will get better once I go fishing with ya.............fa

Sounds like water to me too. Take your fuel filter off without spilling the gas and pour it in a clear glass. You should see it.

i had this same thing happen to me years ago, and it wound up being the stater. hope it is not the problem just my 02' worth on past troubles. emoBang emoScratch emoSorry emoBawl emoBadLanguage

Jmax, same thing happened to me some years back and it was simply replacing the fuel line, seems it had a pin hole in it. Good luck.

Jmax not to make this sound bad but my 175 done that same thing last year and it was blew up. Well i guess it does sound bad. I hadnt had any problems with it before that either it ran like a top. Hope yours isnt that bad. GOOD LUCK

Blue won the guess what happened award. Took it to Glenn and he looked inside just to see. Block had blown up...emoBawl He then went on to say that he was soooo backed up it would be two months before he could even get to it and then no telling how long to rebuild it.emoBang He suggested I take it to Fish-N-Fun and see about a new power head there. So...off I went to there. Saw Tom(Bunblebee Kid) and he helped me. They pretty much said the same thing. Then Kenneth their machanic came out and said to let him look at it first and see if he thought it was worth a rebuild. Said if it had not put a hole in it that they could have it rebuilt and checked out. Went on to tell me it was about a third of the cost but had no warrenty to speak of. Then went on to say a new one was only warrentied for 90 days.emoGoofy I figured I might as well have him take a look-see and let me know what he thinks. Man-o-man, first I get hailed on real bad and screw up my paint job on my truck back when those tornadoes hit, had insurance but had to pay the $500.00 deductable.emoBadLanguage Then got a trojin virus and my computor went down, then my cell phone died after it got wet and now this.emoCrazy I am not sure with the kind of luck I am having this year if any of you all want to be around me.emoTskTsk

I will say this...the folks on this forum are great,....I have had several tell me while I was boatless to call them if I want to go.emoAngler I even had one tell me I could use his boat if I wanted to while mine was out.emoWorthy Boats can be replaced but friends are for life.emoGrouphug Jmax

I bought my first boat from Glenn's dad, Martel Gamble while Glenn was still in school. I loved that boat! MadBomber caught the first fish on the very first cast from the new boat. He still remembers that and gloats about it all the time. I would have caught the first fish, but I had to tie a lure on while he was already rigged up and ready to cast. LOL

I know the Feeling,my Boat did the exact same trick on me last week at Chickamauga without any notice.we were able to limp back to hbsp and put it n the trailer.Took it to Joie Potter for check and found that 1 cylinder was scored and Joie has taken the Head off to get it bored and oversized Sleeve no telling what the cost will be,but you know how it is..Your problem was so familiar, that I thought Well I better send a note Lots of Luck,Sorry to hear that kind of news.

Thanks everyone.....Just got a call from Jerrid at Fish-N-Fun today and here is the lastest. They took the powerhead apart yesterday and there was a hole in it.emoBawl That means that rebuilding it just went out the window. I had Jerrid work me up a complete price on what it was going to cost me and it is going to run $6,589.84 plus tax.emoDoh I told them to go ahead with it. No sence in having a Ranger sitting at the house that will not run.emoScratch Looked into a used motor but was afraid I might just get someone else's problem. One thing about it, I trust those folks at Fish-N-Fun and know they will take care of me. Hopefully they can get the parts quickly and told me that I should have it back within a couple weeks if all goes well.emoSmile Jmax
