i have a 2005 tracker it has a 115 tracker motor by merc the last 2 times i had it out it started up and ran fine until i ran about 1-1 1/2 miles and then it starts missing then eventually it completly quits hitting on one cylinder but it still runs good just on 3 cylinders then i can shut it off and fish for awhile start it back up and it runs good again for about the same distance and starts doing the same thing all over again ! i serviced it back in the spring and changed the spark plugs i hope that it is one of the plugs going bad and not something worse! thanks for any help at all!

Check out the water pump, is it peeing? It may be overheating from lack of water and when you shut it off it might cool down enough to run great again for a mile or so. Check your gas filters also, it may be starving for gas after a long run.

doc the water pump is the first thing i checked and its ok and i just checked the filters and they are fine also is there anything else you can think of thanks a ton! emoThumbsup

Have you checked the spark on the cylinders? Sometimes when a electrical part is going bad it will cut out when heating up. Also check the compression becsuae you may have some sticky rings

anyfish, sound like an electrical problem. Electric current flows worse under heat, so that may be the problem. Check the ignitor coil for any cracks, this is the thing that supplies the power to the distributor, mine was cracked and miss firing like crazy, but only at times. You can usually here the spark going somewhere else when this is happening. Make sure your grease fittings are greased on the distributor as well. That is if your motor has any of these parts. Hope it helps

His engine does not have a distributor. Only the older 75-back 4 cylinders have distributors called CDI. The later models are ADI Atenator Driven Ignitions. It will take the engine to be hot and acting up and a Peak Voltage Adaper to determine weather it is the coil, switch box, triger, or stator. I have a chart that tells me what voltage you should have. Generaly mercury's are 180V+ on low side (blue) 20V+ high (red) and 4V+ on trigger. Out to coil is ususally 180V+. If you don't figure this out soon, you can email me and we can get together and find out what the culprit is.

thanks alot guys i had a new set of plugs here at my house i put them in and im going out this morning to see what happens if this doesnt fix the problem i will check some of this other stuff you know me and my dad were talking about this and he reminded me this happened once before right after break in period on the motor but it straightened itself out before we could try to fix it wished i could get that lucky again! if i cant figure it out i will be in touch wrenchin thanks again everyone! emoThumbsup

Just let me know. I have all the special tools needed to check it. I have seen plugs fix many, but if it is actually loosing spark it will not be a plug. Just let me know!!! I hope you get it fixed!!!
