I was wondering thoughts/opinions on who makes the better trolling motor? I have a motorguide and Im not too pleased with it but I also heard minn kota people hate theirs too.

Get a Johnson/evinrude/omc if you can find one and be done with it ...quieter, more durable, will last forever. Mine is 17 years old and have changed one cable.I also upgraded it from 41# to 54# with a new lower a few years back so new parts are still available.

minn-kota----Johnson is the lightest but u better carry spare cables and mounts with u or u will be left stranded.motor guide pedals sux.

I had a johnson on my first bassboat(75`Allison) and it was bad about the cables...after I had 2-3 broken cables laying around I redesigned and modified the connection on the foot pedal....even made up a couple of extra modified cables out of the broken ones I had. Never had to change a cable again. was still working great when I sold the boat in `97. I`ve found the one that came on my `94 Bullet needs some adjustment from time to time but have only broken one cable in 17 years. Never had a problem with the mounts or brackets. Check the mounting screws every so often. 30 years and 2 trolling motors still going. I`ll take that anytime.

now that i`ve bragged on it it probably break a cable and fall off the boat the next time out.........

better knock on wood !!!!

Two new electric motors on two boats: a pontoon boat and a bass boat in the past few years. The pontoon boat has a Motorguide and the bass boat a Minn-Kota. The three middle speeds stopped working almost immediately on the Motorguide but were repaired without cost under warranty and the motor has been good since. The Minn-Kota has been fine. The technician who sold me the Minn-Kota prefers them to the Motorguide.

I have to say minn-kota to, because that's all i've ever used lol. Sorry not much help. emoBang

one on the best motor guides i ever had was "white water" bow mount on the skeeter i had,{that was awhile back, and they dont build them like that no more,,i got a mkota fortrex on the stratos, anit been in nothing it can't handle,,what ever you get,,make sure you get one thats got enough power,,,
