Hi Everyone,

I moved here with my wife and 22 month old son from Philly (She's from Georgia). I live in Atlanta now. We have the Chattahoochie, but I'm thinking the Tennessee is a bit more my speed.

I run a 16ft Ranger Cherokee (all aluminum), with a 90/65 outboard jet on the back. I might have to move to a glass boat....guess we'll see. I love being able to run through 4-5 inches of water on plain though...call it peace of mind.

My old stomping ground in the Susquehanna...I drove 2 hours on the weekends to fish there...wide, shallow, rocky and chocked full of smallies! Chattanooga is about the same distance, so...I'm thinking the Tennessee River will be my new home base. I prefer river fishing to lake fishing, and smallie fishing is pretty much all I do.

Of course, being in the land of huge bucketmouths, I might be making some adjustments LOL.

I read through some forum posts a bit before signing up. I really enjoy the forum...lots of great information.

Welcome! You have come to the right part of the country, while the jet boat is certainly not needed in most of the TN river, you have lots of options in North Ga for stripers that DO require one. We have great smallie fishing in the river though, and lots of other great fishing too.

you can also check out the Etowa above and bellow lake Alllatoona. The fishing north of Rome can be very good as well as the coosa south of Rome in your type of boat. The two rivers that feel Lake Lanier may also be of interest for you.

Thanks!

I'm going to try and get out some...but with a new house (and the move from PA) and a 22 month old boy and a baby girl due in January, it might get tricky. I'm used to going out every weekend, provided the river wasn't too muddy. I haven't been fishing since late June/early July...it seems like so long ago that I can't even remember...

There's so much great water down here...it's like there's great fishing everywhere...and everywhere for me is anyplace within 3 hours...

Thanks mocs...having fished the Susquehanna as my primary river, I think I am spoiled. I did a lil research and sure enough, there's another river within 2 hours of my house with world class smallmouth...the Tennessee!

I missed the fall season on the Susky...and that really stinks. They school up and sit in several "community pools." You literally run 2 miles, pull up and use your trolling motor for the rest of the day, and bang 25-50 fish...EACH, and usually, there are plenty of 18-20inchers in there.

I will agree! Last year we had over 50 keepers on a blade in one night. It was intense. They are a lot of fun.
