My family and I will be relocating the first week of August to Chattanooga from Houston. It's gorgeous country up there and I couldn't be more excited to have easy access to clean rivers and lakes. I will admit, I am not a very good fisherman. I can catch perch and catfish, that's about it and that's really just because stinkbait + the patience of a saint = eventual catfish on the line.

I just wanted to introduce myself. If I could, I'd love to learn about any spots people feel like sharing that a non-boat owner can drop a line for some catch-and-release fun with the kids. I'd also love to know of any honey holes I could fish from land and pull out some keeper cats but I don't really expect anyone to divulge their secrets lol.

I'm always happy to help, where I can, I'm a Marketing Analyst by trade and former Online Marketing Director of Hair Club so - if anyone has any questions regarding that, feel free to ask. Likewise, if anyone knows of YouTube vids, posts, books, etc that could help me become a better fisherman, I'd appreciate the help. Glad to join this forum and looking forward to being there soon.

First question - how's the catfishing in August there? In TX the high temps kills all action until late evening and even then you have to fish a little deeper than typical.

Welcome to the forum bud! I moved up here from Houston in '94. We still go visit family but my heart is here now. Touch base with me when you get done with the move and we'll hit the water.

Welcome to God's country! I moved back in 1988 after being gone 16 years and haven't regretted it at one bit. Got the kids, grandkids, and great fishing in east Tennessee.

Welcome to the forum, you will get more help than you think, there are a lot of great helpful people on here. You are right the catfishing is a little slow in the middle of the day because of the heat mainly because you cant stand it.

Welcome to the area and to the forum. Look forward to meeting you. If you need anything while you are getting setup just let me know.

Welcome I hope you get to know the waters pretty good. The chickamauga dam is a good place to catfish / any kind of cut bait works preferably skipjack/big shad

welcome I moved from san antonio in 1996 and never thought about going back. fishing is great both for cats and bass. look me up and we can hit the river for some cat and bass.

Thanks to everyone for the great welcome and tips/information. I'll be looking for a copy of the books you mentioned ChickamaugaJim and will be dropping my first line near the damn, per UltraLit3's suggestion.

This appears to be a very active and helpful forum, which is fantastic. I am very much looking forward to moving soon, getting our lines in the water and BBQ on the grill. Thanks again for the fantastic welcome.
