Well, not sure how to put this, but we flat caught some fish the past two days. Not sure if crappie fishing is always like this or if this is a magical year, but we have been catch tons of them this spring, up to 1300+ already. This is my first year of really targeting crappie and it will be interesting to follow them this summer and fall. I am still learning but think I am catching on pretty good.

6-3-2013 - Alvin

We did the same thing I did last Friday, started on a main lake dock and just blistered them. Had 31 off this dock with about 15 keepers. Fish were holding about 8-10 feet in 15 feet of water and were on fire. We made a move to the Nuke bluff and not a single crappie. I caught quite a few there last Friday, with some nice keepers but nothing Monday. Did get a nice 2-2.5 lb meanmouth. While we were fishing the bluff I heard someone yell at us and it was Whilser11. Had not seen him in forever. He was out chasing cats and not have any luck.

We made a move to the deep water bank I had done well on Friday as I did not get to finish scouting the rest of it due to time. We hit the 3 areas I did well on Friday and we gota few, but the current was much stronger and it made for difficult fishing. We continued down the bank scouting and found 3 mother loads of fish. Caught one after another to the point it actually got pretty comical. Keeper after keeper. The fish were anywhere from dry rocks down to about 10-12 feet. I think we left after getting crappie 107 in the boat. I took some picks of the SI on these spots. Unreal the number of fish on them.

Rode down to another deep water bank and only marked a few. Got 3 of them, with 2 nice keepers. Moved to a floating dock that has had a huge school of crappie on it (see Lowerance graph below)for a few weeks now and boated 10 with 5 being keepers. Headed home after that.

For our 4.5 hours of effort we boated 120 crappie with at least 50 keepers (and that is not counting the 10" squeaker keepers), 1 LM, 1 meanmouth, and 15 bluegill. Best crappie fishing day we have had for size. I think 95% of our non-keeper were for sure over 9". Great size day.

6-4-2013 - Alvin and Jack

Decided to give it another go and this time our co-worker Jack wanted to ride along to get some crappie for the freezer. We basically repeated the pattern from Monday. The fish were there but smaller and somewhat harder to catch. But the an extra bait in the water and a more refined milk run we put 140 crappie in the boat with 36 keepers. Same type deal as Monday but we hit a few more docks and we caught crappie on every single place we fished. The floating dock that had fish on it Monday was loaded today, but mostly 9.5 inchers, we must have got 25 of them before we gave up and went looking for better quality. Jack and had a ball and if you cannot tell from the pic he is smiling on the inside. emoLaugh I think we only had maybe 10 crappie under 9 inches.

We ended the day with 140 crappie (36 keepers), 2 bluegill, 1 spot, 1 LM and a warmouth. Water temps were anywhere from 74 on the main lake to 80 in Chester Frost.

Both days we used 1/32 oz lead heads with chartuse baits or baits with chartuse on them. The crappie would not touch a bait with white on it for some reason.

Amazing 2 days of fishing. 260 crappie with over 85 keepers in 9 total hours of fishing. That is a crappie put into the boat every 2 minutes!!! Amazing fishery.

These will be my last trips for the week. Heading to Charlotte to get my Nerd on this week at HeroesCon. BPrice would be proud. http://www.heroesonline.com/heroescon/
