Got out this morning with my cousin Bryan again. After the last trip he had with me I had some expert guiding to do to match expectations. The plan was to topwater bass fish for a while then go kill the cats on drop shot. Well, lets just say it was slow today.

Started out with Bryan fishing a torpedo and me a pig n jig. I think I had him 4 to zero before he boated a fish, but he must have hooked up and lost 5 before he got one in the boat. The spawn is over and the larger fish have went back to deeper water. Most of the spots we caught today on the banks were in the 12" range but we did get a couple of 1.5-2 lbers. Even got 4 largemouths, with 3 of them being 2 lb or better.

Switched from bass to cats and man it was SLOW. We fished for cats for about 2 hours and boated 6 blues and 3 channels and lost 3-4 more. Had to works our butts off for what we get. RSimms came done and floated with us for a while and I don'tthink they caught anything so they headed back up river just before we quit for lunch.

That being said we did boat 33 fish today in 3.5 hours. 12 spots, 4 LM, 1 smallie (lost 2 more, all around 12" long), 1 crappie, 1 big bluegill, 5 redbreasts (Bryan had one close to 10" kill his torpedo), 6 blue cats, and 3 channels. We are spoiled to think 33 fish is a slow day. When I told Bryan we boated 33 fish he said "Really, seemed a lot slower than that". He is ruined for life for fishing after our last trip. emoLaugh Water temp was around 73.

Yeah, I have to agree, we do get spoiled on numbers, variety, and size too. But I kind of like being spoiled. emoBigsmile

I made the classic error of leaving fish to find fish. We caught one cat and two decent spots drifting your hole. emoBigsmile

It was good to see you... and yes, who calls 33 fish a "slow day?" emoPoke

I have done that plenty of times. Glad you guys caught a few there. It was tough out yesterday, not sure why.
