Today was the exact opposite of yesterday and we had to work super hard for the fish we caught. TVA dropped the water about a foot or more overnight and the fish did not like it very well.

Started out at the bend thinking the topwater bite would be on fire. Nope. Got a few but it was slow. Gave up and headed up river and again slow, slow, slow. Hit a bank downtown that has been good to us this spring and finally got into some fish. We stayed downtown the rest of the trip. Candi got a super nice 2 lb or so meanmouth that destroyed the torpedo. We moved to one of my favorite banks, one where my cousin got a 6.5 lber last year on a torpedo, and inalmost the exact spot Candi had a good one just come up and slurp the torpedo down. Turned out to be her personal best largemouth at 4.1 lbs. Can’t beat that. We tried for my spring time smallies and never got a hit. Did one drift with the drop shot and picked up 5 cats and rock bass, no smallies wanted to play with us today.

Made one more move to another of my favorite spring time banks. Thought it was a rock bass and set the hook. The water exploaded when up came a 5.88 lb largemouth!!! Fish was HUGE and would have went 7-8 lbs pre-spawn. Awesome, my second 6 lb class fish in two trips. A 6 lb class fish in 2 feet of water at high noon. Unreal.

We fished for another 30 minutes, got a few spots, and called it a day.

For our efforts we boated 17 spots, 1 meanmouth, 1 bluegill, 4 rock bass, 5 largemouth, 1 smallie, 2 channel cats, and 4 blue cats. We lost as many bass as we boated. Water temp was around 70. Good times.
