Been trying to get my parents out for a couple of weeks and today was the day. My dad hurt his knee and could not go today but my mom came down and we hit the Riverpark a little after 7:30 and fished until 12:00.

First area was my pets at the bend. I decided to put my mom on some fish today since our last trip for crappie she did not catch anything. I set her up with the black/blue pig n jig and I decided to throw everything but to give her the best chance at catching some fish. Did not take long. She boated the fist bass of the day on about her 3rd cast. We each proceeded to catch and lose one fish after another until around 9:30 when the bite for us just died. I caught my fish on torpedo and tubes. I got a nice 2.5-2.75 largemouth on a tube and about a minute later my mom got the 3.8 lber in the picture below on pig n jig. Alsoput 10 spots in the livewell for my aunt while we were there.

Left down there and headed to downtown. Got a couple of spots fishing structure including a nice 2.7 lber that would have went over 3 prespawn. Decided to catch some google eyes and found a few but nothing like the numbers from a couple of weeks ago. Hung out with Alvin and his Brother and Dad for a little while. They were fishing crickets and doing well on channel cats and redbreasts. While we were fishing for google eyes using tubes my mom got a chunky 14" largemouth anda turtle about 12" in diameter. First turtle I have seen caught at the Riverpark and first on a tube. Luckly he was hooked on the outside of the mouth and was easily released without harm.

Decided to hit one more piece of structure and my mom got an awsome 3 lb meanmouth. Very unusual fish. Had and color of a smallie but a very well defined tooth patch and horizontal barring like a spot. Very beautiful fish. Rsimms rode up just as I was releasing it, I did not see him coming or would have waited, sorry Richard.

Numbers for today:

Mom

18 bass

8 Goggle eyes

1 turtle

Me

16 bass (yep, got beat)

16 google eyes

1 channel

2 bluegill

61 fish and 1 turtle got in the boat today. I bet we stuck and lost another 15 bass. Awsome day on the water with my mom. Water temp was 71-72 degrees. Our best 3 would have went 9.5 lbs and out best 5 would have went 13.5 lbs.

While I was cleaning the spots I found a baby turtle in one of the 13" spots and a large crawfish in one of the 14" spots. Never found a turtle in a fish before, those things will eat anything they can catch.

I'm glad that someone can beat you fishing, I know that I never do. Thanks for taking your Mom. You are creating great lasting memories!

I don't think my Mom got in a boat more than twice in her whole life. Cherish The time you get to spend with them. I hope your Dad gets OK soon. Great trip and as far as I can remember, it's the first post featuring Mom and Son.

Ain't it great to have some pets staked out!!!

Yep, always good to have some fish on stand by. Mom went out with me and Drumking a few weeks ago and her and dad went to the Riverpark with me last year. Not nealy enough but I do enjoy fishing with them when I can get them to go. We used to go a lot when I was a teenager and when we lived on Watts Bar.

Dad loves topwater and I will get him on some fish in a week or two when his knee gets better.

Great report Mr W. Are you sure that is Mom, she looks younger than you, lol. Always great to get the family out fishing. Brings back memories of my last trip with my Uncle who started me fishing when I was 8. He got a 27# muskie that day, the largest fish he ever caught. Thanks for the report and pictures, I enjoyed them a lot.

Regards, Labman

This is mr whiskers mom. I really enjoyed the day with my son. He's a good son. Not many would want to spend the day with their old mom. Plus he let me catch the good fish. Maybe dad will come next time.
