Hi all. I'm thinking about ordering a muskie rod for frog fishing... like the Shimano Sojourn 8' heavy. Do any of yall have experience with muskie rods? It doesn't seem like their ratings are the same as bass rods because the line ratings are high for the listed power. I want a rod I can cast a spro frog a decent way with 65 lb braid but still pull bass out of heavy mats. Thanks!

Get a real frog rod, Action makes casting and accuracy lots easier. Also there made to pull them out of mats, most are around 7' 4" long. Lots of other things to use it on, pitchin, big football jig, and other uses. JMHO.

I used to use a 7'6" heavy rod. It was a cheap rod that was given to me and it was heavy and i didnt like casting with it. It got the job done but i didnt really enjoy the rod. I bought a Denali Rosewood frog rod from another member. Its a heavy power moderate fast action 6'10" rod. It makes casting so much easier and farther with that moderate fast tip so the rod can load up. Its short so i can be real accurate with it. I pulled a few 6s out of some thick stuff and i never struggled. And its so much lighter than my old one. So glad i got the rod.

It will work fine, as long as you can still cast (moderate to mod-fast action and heavy enough frog to load the rod). Also butt length can be longer.

I just picked up a 8' heavy fast rod that I had custom made for frog. I told him I wanted it to have a second function for heavy carolina rig and jigs, and what I got is a rod that feels great for that but probably too light for grass mats. So I want a fallback plan that doesn't cost a bunch. Or I could yank on this rod til it breaks and get him to make me a stronger one. I'm very tall and quite stout, and I like my rods longer than average. Thanks for the responses.
