After going stir crazy from all of the rain Deb and I squeezed in a few hours of fishing today. I was about out of gas and didn't have my fishfinder so we just fished one rocky bank and point that produced over 30 crappie...4 channel cats...7 yellow bass...9 bream...1 drum. I also lost a nice bass that I almost had in the boat. We fished from 11:30 until 3:30. A lot of shad were on top of the water while it was cloudy and the crappie were hanging around them in about 10-15 feet of water. The bite slowed around 1:30 but really picked up about 2:30 when the shad were all over the top of the water again even in full sunshine. I caught a 14 inch crappie in 8-10 feet and about 10 minutes later caught a 14.25 inch crappie in about the same spot. Most of the crappie caught during that 45 minute span were keeper size. Debbie caught the most crappie and cats but I lucked up with the two TARPS. We used 1/24 and 1/32 oz. BG and curly tail jigs casting toward the bank but over half of the fish were caught vertical fishing over a drop-off with brushpiles on 1/16 oz. jigs tipped with minnows.
