I'm making a fishing report but also reporting the fact that...I wuz robbed. I didn't even realize it until after 30 minutes of fishing. I'll get to the gory details in a bit. We started fishing around 10:15 am in Wolftever Creek. Deb and I caught two small crappie close to Rabbit Island in about 10 feet of water. We were using the jigs that we had left on our rods from Sunday. A BG electric chicken and a white Lake Fork Baby Shad. I was using a 1/16 oz. white Road Runner jig head on Hi-Vis line and Deb was using a 1/16 oz. chartreuse Road Runner jig head on clear 4lb. Mr. Crappie line. Deb caught two nice blue cats about 20 minutes apart on the Lake Ford shad. We were a little surprised as it's usually a channel cat we run across in the creek. We're here after crappie...wassup this this ? I thought the first one was a bass as it ran off across the top of the water with her jig. We were a little let down when it was a catfish. Both fish were similar in size but the second was slightly larger. They were fun for Deb on 4lb test line. I think they were feeding on the numerous shad that we saw. I made sure I didn't get finned this time like I did with the last blue cat we caught.

It's been about 30 minutes and I decide to try different color jigs as the crappie bite seemed slow. I've got jigs in two or three places on the boat and...I can't find them. Well...I guess I moved them. Let's look in here...no jigs. Ok...I can't seem to find a big plastic bag with opened and unopened Bobby Garland Baby Shad...Slab Slayers...Split Tails...Slab Dockt'Rs ...Yum Wooly Beavertails...Yum Wooly Bees...Lake Ford Shad... a pack of 100 1/24 oz. unopened jig heads I ordered on E-Bay recently, etc. I just put them on the boat days ago after being at the house for a long time. I start looking around closer...my two Plano plastic storage boxes under my tackle box - are gone. They are full of crankbaits - spinnerbaits - chatterbaits - plastic worms - bass jigs - more crappie jigs - many jig heads, etc. I haven't quite run the full inventory through my mind yet. Deb and I are very puzzled. Did we move everything to the pontoon for some reason ? Do you remember doing this or that with them ? Why would someone just steal lures and jigs when I have a portable Lowrance Elite-5 fishfinder on the boat...4 fishing rods... a tackle box just packed full of bass lures...3 reels in a compartment where they found the bag of jigs, etc. ? It made no sense.

I look and look and find two more crappie jigs in the bottom of my tackle box. That's it ! I have 5 total crappie jigs in the boat. Deb said don't you want to go back to the pontoon now and check to see if someone has taken everything for sure ? I just said no...let's fish with what we've got. They are either somewhere else somehow or they are just gone...stolen. I didn't want to go and check it out just to be heartsick when my worst fears were realized. I said this is why I go fishing...to forget about the bills in the mailbox and to get away from the day to day problems that you have to deal with sometimes. We can check later. We left the creek as our crappie were on the small side and fished the bay for a few hours. Fishing was slow overall but considering we had 5 jigs to choose from I thought we did great. We caught 14 more crappie...2 yellow bass...a bluegill and a bream. I caught a variety of fish on a Panfish Assassin Curly Tail grub. The fish we found in the bay were in 12-17 feet today. We found one hot spot on a drop-off next to a point. The water level took another nose dive since Sunday and the fishing should get much better when it finally levels out in the future. We caught one last crappie near the mouth of the HBSP marina slough and decided to go in and after checking every "nook and cranny" on the pontoon we found out...yup, we wuz robbed. The docks there have a security code to get in but I'm sure those numbers get around from person to person. I don't know if it was from someone on another boat on the dock or what ? I peeked my head in the office door while I was leaving and told them what happened and the Ranger asked me if I wanted to make a report ? I thought for a second and said, well...I guess. It seemed strange making a report about jigs and lures but I did anyway. They thought that it could have been done by a boat that pulled up next to mine at night but I thought...ugh ? - no way...and not get the fishfinder and rods, etc. ( one was my Fat Albert rod ). I also had a quite a bit of stuff on the pontoon and none of it was touched. I don't know what the total amount of money is but it's quite a bit. I had about 20 unopened jig packs with a ton of expensive bass lures. I'm sure I'll remember more stuff later.

It's the principal of the theft and just the stealing of jigs and lures that blows my mind ? I'm just incredibly thankful that all of my fishing gear and equipment wasn't taken. It was like a personal attack on my fishing ! Let's take all of the lures and jigs so Jeff and Deb can't fish ! Whoever took them I just hope you have tons of fun with all of those jigs and bass lures...'ya little jerks. I took most everything else off my boat when I left today in case they came back looking for more. I've been at the HBSP marina for 8 years and this is the first time I've had something like this happen. You don't give it much thought until something like this does happen. I'm not going to let it bother me...I'm just gonna have to buy more fishin' stuff. A few pics...

So sorry Rat I know how you feel. Had my 4 wheeler and trailer stolen 5 yrs ago rite out of my backyard garage. 2pm in the afternoon and the neighbor watched it all while trying to dial the police. The line was busy. Only in Etowah.

Yeah...that's a shame Chris. I hate a thief. I just counted up the total amount of jigs I have to my name now and I believe it's...9. It was just terrible luck that I had just put so many on the boat in the last few days from an order I placed awhile back. Different types of jigs I hadn't used before. It dawned on me I'm also missing a lot more bass lures than I first thought - dang ! Btw - that was Chickamauga Lake I fished today - not Chickamuga - in my subject line. I guess this whole deal has left me a little bumfuzzled. emoConfused

Wow I don't even know what to say! That's terrible Jeff. They should have some cameras out there for what they charge for docking boats at the marinas.

All kinds...
Sorry about that rip off.

I got waked today because I was on a hole someone wanted me to move from.
I took a pic later of the boat.

People are good mostly, but some are no-conscience low-lives.

Good luck emoPolice

I agree Bob. They put those silly gates up with the security code locks about three years ago but those numbers get passed around from a boat owner to maybe a friend and then on to someone else without realizing that it could get to the wrong person. I'm thinking it was maybe someone that had a boat on that dock. Most of the boaters aren't fisherman but a few are and whoever got my stuff was after jigs and lures for their fishing. It took them awhile to take the time to get what they wanted. They were obviously fishermen and must have felt comfortable and safe with what they were doing but I just really don't know ? Did they really need that many jigs and lures ? I guess I thought I did - but I paid for them ! The reason I fish so much is that I need to get my money's worth from the slip rent I pay. It's cheaper at HBSP than most of the other marinas though. I had a major back surgery in '99 and had a 2-inch section taken out of my lower back. Trying to get a boat in and out of the water plus sitting in a boat all day was a little more than I could stand. I have to make it as easy as possible for myself to continue fishing. I'm sure not going to quit - I love to do it too much.

This makes me madder than heck. I would say hell, but I usually don't talk like that. emoHoppingmad

Muskrat, I have 8 packs of Lake Fork jigs that I already have glued up with 1/16 oz jig heads that I will gladly give to you. I don't like Lake Fork and don't intend to fish them. So, let me know when you are going to be at HBSP and I will bring them to you. emoGeezer

That's very nice of you to even think about doing that DK. Candi has also offered me a goody bag of jigs. Ya'll are just too kind. I'll just buy me a pack of jigs here and there down the road. I can afford a few jigs. It's going to be hard to let loose of that money though after having a stockpile. I'll probably start with BG Outlaw Special Scent Wigglr's - a personal fave of mine. I got "very" jig happy for awhile and bought way too many. So many I never had a chance to use them yet. I had a ridiculous amount. I can probably catch all the fish I need with just 3 or 4 colors anyway. I'll just have to stuff them in my pocket after a fishing trip fearing someone will steal them again. What hurts are the number of bass lures they got - ouch. Do you have any crankbaits ? emoLaughemoTongueemoPoke - teasin'. They left me a few in my tackle box for some reason. I've still got some plastic worms and creature baits so maybe I can find a silver lining out of this and get back to soft bait fishing for bass. Both Debbie and I are bummed out over this deal and don't even feel like fishing. That could probably last as long as...Friday ! emoLaugh
